The gaming drought is coming to an end and soon will come a flood of triple A video games all expecting to cash in on the Holidays. But you don’t have money for them all, so I’ve narrowed it down to the top five games coming this September.
Keep in mind that I have not played these games and that this is based on what I’ve seen, heard and my own personal preferences. If you disagree with my choices feel free to let me know in the comments section below.
5. Dirt 2(PC, Wii, Xbox 360, PS3, DS, PSP)
Dirt 2 (also known as Colin McRea: Dirt 2 in the uk) is the second instalment in Codemaster’s rally racing series. The first Dirt looked beautiful and Dirt 2 looks even better. The game will feature racing legends such as the late Colin McRea, Co-founder of DC shoes Ken Block and Travis Pastrana. A demo is now available on PSN and xbox live for those of you wanting to check it out. The full version of Dirt 2 will be released the 8th of September.
4. The Beatles: Rockband(Xbox 360, PS3, Wii)
The Beatles: Rockband is a music game developed by Harmonix. Harmonix is no stranger to music games as this is their 13th music game since 2001. The Beatles: Rockband will feature 45 beatles songs on release date, with more to be released via DLC. This game can be purchased in a bundle with Beatles themed controllers or standalone as it is compatible with other Rockband controllers and accessories. I would certainly recommend this game to anyone who is a Beatles fan or already has the rockband controllers and is looking for more. The Beatles: Rockband will be released on the 9th of September.
3. Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2(PS3, Xbox 360, Wii, PS2, DS, PSP)
Say what you will about the first ultimate alliance game but I actually enjoyed it. Sure it was a little boring and felt tedious at times but overall I enjoyed the Co-op and the RPG elements of the game. Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 is an upcoming action-RPG game based on the marvel universe. The games storyline will feature elements of the civil war comics (one of my personal favourites). The heroes have been spilt to two sides because of the introduction of the Superhuman Registration Act. Certain Heroes will be locked on specific sides (such as Captain America and Iron Man). The rest of the characters will be freely playable on either side. The game will feature a ton of playable characters each with their own unique fighting styles and special techniques. Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 is scheduled for release on September 15th.
2. Mario & Luigi: Bowser’s Inside Story(DS)
Mario & Luigi: Bowser’s Inside Story is the official English name for Mario & Luigi RPG 3. In the game you will be able to play as Mario, Luigi and Bowser. A large portion of the game will take place inside Bowser or playing as Bowser. The gameplay inside Bowser will be a sidescroller with turn based battles. When playing as Bowser it will be more similar to the traditional Mario and Luigi RPG games. The game will be released in North America on September 14th.
I’m sure you all saw this coming. Scribblenauts is an upcoming side scrolling puzzle game for the Nintendo DS. In the game you must solve puzzles by creating objects. Objects are created by typing words on the touchscreen. This game is only limited by your imagination. It features thousands of word and objects including internet memes such as keyboard cat. I’d recommend this game to anyone with a DS, heck you should probably buy a ds for this game if you don’t already have one. Just to explain how awesome this game is, I will include an excerpt from a now famous post that was posted by the user Freep on Neogaf.
“So listen to this story. I was in the early levels; I didn’t quite have an idea of how ridiculously in-depth the database was. I was summoning things like ladders, glasses of water, rayguns, what have you. But I reached a level with zombie robots, and the zombie robots kept killing me. Rayguns didn’t work, a torch didn’t work, a pickaxe didn’t work. In my frustration, I wrote in “Time Machine”. And one popped up. What the [censored]? A smile dawned on my face. I hopped in, and the option was given to me to either travel to the past or the future. I chose past. When I hopped out, there were [censored] dinosaurs walking around. I clicked one, and realized I could RIDE THEM. So I hopped on a [censored] DINOSAUR, traveled back to the present, and stomped the [censored] out of robot zombies. Did you just read that sentence? Did you really? I [censored] TRAVELED THROUGH TIME AND JUMPED ON A DINOSAUR AND USED IT TO KILL MOTHER[censored] ROBOT ZOMBIES. This game is unbelievable. Impossible. There’s nothing you can’t do.”
And now it’s time for the Honourable mentions, games that seem great but couldn’t make the top five.

-Guitar Hero 5(Xbox 360, Wii, PS3, PS2) September 1st
