Miyamoto says Wii 2 motion controls might be "more compact"

While we are still quite the ways away from even really talking about next generation consoles, if the 5 year model holds true this generation as well the next generation of consoles will be arriving some time within the next few years.  While no one is talking concrete details, Shigeru Miyamoto gave a little bit of insight on what their plans may be for the next generation.

…while we don’t have any concrete plans for what we’ll be doing with hardware in the future, what I can say is that, my guess is that because we found this interface to be so interesting, I think it would be likely that we would try to make that same functionality perhaps more compact and perhaps even more cost-efficient.

To be honest I’m not even going to try to predict what anyone plans on doing. This generation Nintendo threw such a big wrench into the industry that I don’t even know how they will follow it up or what Microsoft or Sony plans on doing, especially with their motion controls hitting soon. One thing I can say for certain though is that the big three are all probably working away at new technology for their next consoles, but who knows when it will hit though.
