The Zelda series has seen quite a few forms of transportation. Link started out on foot and eventually mounted his very own horse before taking control of a boat. Next month Link will also have used trains to help him fight evil. But what is next?
In a interview with The Guardian, Eiji Aonuma briefly spoke about his child starting to play The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass.“I have an eight-year-old son myself at home, and quite recently he started playing Phantom Hourglass for DS, because when the software first hit the market he was too young. When he started playing with the boat, I told him: ‘In the next Zelda, you are going to be able to ride on the train.’ He answered: ‘OK, Dad, first boat, and then train? Surely next time, Link is going to fly in the sky … ‘” Aonuma paused and then grinned saying “I just don’t know. If many people make many speculations … some of them might be correct. Right now, I have to refrain from commenting on anything.”
Link has already been launched from a cannon quite a few times, but I’m sure he would appreciate a much easier and less painful way of getting around via the sky.
It was just Aonuma’s son saying it, but often you hear about developers taking inspiration from people and things around them in real life. So maybe in the next Zelda we will see Link cruising the skies with a Airship or something similar.
