Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 1 announced with teaser

Oh I bet Sonic62 would have loved to write this story up. Anyway, SEGA announced via Gamespot just a few minutes ago what Project Needlemouse was and it was just what we were all expecting…the return to 2D…well kinda.

More and a trailer after the break

It’ll be a 2D game with 3D visuals. It’s also apparently going to be an episodic downloadable game for all 3 systems. The Wii version will obviously be limited to 480p, whereas the other two system will run it in full 1080p glory. The game will make use of the Wii’s motion controls in parts, and also make use of the Ps3’s six-axis controller.

Sega made it clear that they will not be straying from the packaged retail games, in favor for downloadable venues. Instead they state that it’s”… just a new way to offer a great Sonic experience through a different medium.”

Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 1 will be available this summer, and I can foresee an increased profit for Sega.

Enjoy the trailer!

  1. I so knew it was going to be StH4. I wonder how the episodic feature is going to play into it. So far, this looks simply amazing though. I’m really excited.
