The long wait for Dragon Quest IX to make it overseas is finally over. Both Nintendo of America and Nintendo of Europe, who will be publishing the DS title in their respective regions instead of Square-Enix, announced today that the title will be hitting this July. Specifically, July 11th for North America and July 23rd in Europe.
Dragon Quest IX is the first main entry of the Dragon Quest series to be built exclusively for a portable. It is also one of the first to feature a full-blown multiplayer where friends can team up via local wireless connections and quest together.
In Japan, where the Dragon Quest series is quite popular, Dragon Quest IX has already moved 4.2 million units. We will have to wait and see if Nintendo can help Square-Enix push sales in the NA and EU regions toward that number.
