Nintendo may look into a more accessible online

Recently Iwata made a statement regarding the lack of online in New Super Mario Bros. Wii. He initially started off by saying that it was due to the goal of the game being that it would be fun for multiple people to play in the same room, however he also went onto say “I can say that we are not currently satisfied with the online efforts that we have made so far, and we are working at ways to improve those”. This could be very good because I personally would love to see an easier to use Nintendo online service.

  1. I really hope that they follow through with this. And they’re not really saying why NSMBW didn’t have Wi-Fi. You CAN indeed have online and local multiplayer in one game. XD

  2. New online would be awesome, not only would it be awesome to play online easier with your friends, but people who rag on Nintendo would have no reason to insult it, because usually all they complain about is the terrible online system.

  3. The real reason they didn’t have online in this game is because it would’ve been too much for the game to handle; 4 players on the same screen and all the environmental changes going on were all they could do smoothly. Wi-Fi would’ve probably caused it to lag horribly like Super Smash Bros. Brawl. So in a way, Iwata is right about his statement that the game is geared toward local multiplayer.

But yeah, they really need to fix their online, especially on Animal Crossing, where if one person gets disconnected, everyone in that town gets disconnected. However, I hope these improvements won’t make it necessary for us to pay for online service.
