Earlier today, Twisted Pixel, developer of the XBLA title, Splosion Man, accused Capcom of stealing numerous aspects from said title for their newest game for the IPhone, titled MaXplosion.
In Capcom’s game, players take on the role of a boy named Max, who has has “the ability to explode at will allowing you to bounce off surfaces and reach far flung locations”. Twisted Pixel was outraged over the game, which does, indeed, play very similarly to Splosion Man
Programmer Mike Henry posted on Twitter, “MaXplosion gameplay video makes me sad. If you’re going to outright steal a game, you should at least understand what makes it fun. Never thought I’d see the day when the ‘exploding man’ genre was overcrowded. Borrowing is great. We do it all the time. But that game is a complete theft.”
The developers behind Splosion Man later announced that they would not take legal action against Capcom as they are too small of a company to afford going to court with a company like Capcom.
Twisted Pixel also revealed that they had pitched the idea for Splosion Man to Capcom first. However, Capcom said no.
