Nintendo Confirms 3DS Region Lock

If you were hoping to import 3DS titles from a region outside of yours, you’re out of luck. VG247 contacted Nintendo and when asked about region locking Nintendo replied, ” …we want to ensure the best possible gaming experience for our users and there is the possibility that Nintendo 3DS software sold in one region will not function properly when running on Nintendo 3DS hardware sold in another.

Nintendo says there will be warning on the packaging of software, stating that the software will only work on a platform of the same region.

The “possibility” quote gives us so hope that Nintendo won’t require region-locking on titles, giving developers the freedom to choose, but I would prepare for the worst.

You’ll never run a hostess club where you can service Lupin the Third.

  1. That’s dumb on there part. If there’s an anime game that I want that’s Japanese, I am not willing to buy a Japanese 3DS.

never thought I’d say this but……FAIL

  2. It’s the best possible gaming experience because then you have an excuse to buy multiple 3DSs which means even more fun!

Seriously though Nintendo, people ARE going to import your consoles and games if you region lock them and don’t localize them.
