Sure, 3DS games look pretty good, but they aren’t exaclt mind numbing for a portable. The PSP has already come pretty close to what the 3DS is performing. With rumors of Sony’s new handheld on the way, the 3DS may have to fight the same fight that the original DS did with its visuals.
Rumor has it that Sony is shopping the PSP2 around to developers claiming that the platform is “as powerful as the PlayStation 3.” The originator of the rumor, MCV, also details that the platform will have a heavy downloadable presence, but will still play physical media, and that it is scheduled for a Q4 2010 release.
Of course, this brings up the question of price. The PS3 is still a nice chunk of change, costing $299.99. Shove all of that into the palm of your hands, and I’d imagine you will have an even more expensive platform. Unless Sony has something else up their sleeves with the PSP2’s release, like maybe a touch pad on the back of the system, the PSP2 and 3DS are set to fight the exact same fight the DS and PSP fought. And we all know how that turned out.
With all the 3DS hype flying around, anyone looking forward to the PSP2?
