Nintendo Comments on 3DS Error Screens

As with every system launch, there are some malfunctions with some of the early systems and software. Particularly, people have been experiencing black screens of death, saying an error has occurred. This seems to be happening with random pieces of software, mostly cartridge based. But late last night I even had it happen to me while just looking at photos. So, what does Nintendo recommend? The Inquirer contacted Nintendo about the issue.

Our recommendations are that if anyone is experiencing any problems with their Nintendo 3DS console, we recommend that in the first instance they download and install the latest system update, now available online. If the problems still persist we recommend they contact their local Nintendo Customer Service centre to investigate the problem.

I updated my system almost immediately after unboxing it and checked for another system update, just in case I had missed it. So at least in my case, there isn’t much I can do but wait and see if it happens again or was just a weird fluke.

For all of you 3DS owners out there, have you experienced any black screens of death?

  1. I have had this happen twice now, both were on the Home menu, and both were before I updated the system.
Since the crashes, I have been playing Pokemon White, and it seems to have stopped.
