Day 5! Day 5 of Obligatory Ice Level Day! This is a goofy, fake holiday meant to build hype for The Speed Gamers’ Zelda marathon, which starts December 12th! We’re raising money for Mercy Corps, so I hope you all help us out by promoting and donating! Well, we’re big Nintendo fans here at TSG, but it’s time to pay tribute to Nintendo’s former rival. That’s why today’s ice level is the 30th Floors, from Super Monkey Ball!
Super Monkey Ball! The world’s favorite game about monkeys frolicking in weird capsules as they try to not fall off of cliffs! The whole game is a series of silly obstacle courses. Your mission, should you choose to accept it (and you will, because who doesn’t love primates?) is to get through every course without plummeting off the edges!
Technically the ice levels don’t show up until Floor 31, but eh, close enough! These slippery stages include some of the hardest floors for a speedrunner. Some of the tracks include: a long, thin winding road that only gets thinner the closer you get to the goal, a massive funnel that you could easily fall down the center of, a series of barrels that move around, and a collection of awkward-moving cube platforms. Actually, now that I think about it, these floors immediately follow a bunch of floors set in a desert. How exactly does the world of Super Monkey Ball WORK??
And now, for Sega ice level tunes! Ice Scream and Ring Rink are both from Ristar! Welcome to the Temple is from Comix Zone! Hard Water is from Ecco the Dolphin! Ice Mountain Zone is from Sonic Advance!
This Mutant League Hockey remix is by Hyde209! This remix of Welcome to the Temple is by Calvin Magnus! The Glacier’s Peak is a remix of Ice Mountain Zone, and it’s by jmr! Stars on Ice is a remix of Ring Rink, by DusK and Rexy!
Man, the marathon’s getting ever closer! What are you doing to promote? I hope it’s a lot, because this event’s going to be HUGE!
