The marathon’s coming up! It’s Day 11 of Obligatory Ice Level Day and I can’t wait to see you all there! This is a goofy, fake holiday meant to build hype for The Speed Gamers’ Zelda marathon, which starts December 12th! We’re raising money for Mercy Corps, so I hope you all help us out by promoting and donating! As you know, Zelda is TSG’s bread and butter. It’s the series they started on, and it’s the series they’ll end on… for this year, anyway. That’s why today’s ice level is Ice Ring Isle, from The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker!
Wind Waker! Ah, how this game kept me up at nights after a long day of school. In this game, you are of course Link. But despite the cute graphics, this story takes place in a somewhat grim world. Wind Waker is part of the “Failure Timeline,” which means that in this story, the Hero of Time (Link’s incarnation in Ocarina of Time) did not defeat the evil Ganondorf. As such, Hyrule was buried under the sea and civilization began anew on the few patches of land that remained above the waves. The young, toony Link finds his sister’s been kidnapped by a giant bird known as the Helmaroc King, and sets out to find her. On his travels he meets Tetra the pirate, and the two of them discover that they have deeper ties than they originally suspected.
Ice Ring Isle has a very special item: the Iron Boots, which allow Link to withstand powerful air currents. Unfortunately, the center of the island has a giant Freezard-shaped cave, and that cave is constantly spouting off freezing air. The island can’t even be approached until you get the Fire Arrows, which can then be shot at the cave to stop the chilling breeze. However, the cave won’t stay cal for long, and you have about 5 minutes to get in there and claim your prize. If you can get inside in time, you get the boots. Mess it up, and you have to start all over again.
Yes I know technically this can’t happen. WHATEVS, LECARDE
Snowhead Temple from Majora’s Mask has mostly atmospheric sounds. Snowpeak Ruins has its own theme in Twilight Princess. Snowpeak plays in the surrounding land. Blizzeta plays during the creepy boss battle! Frozen Hyrule is from Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventures, though technically it’s a wintery version of the Dark World theme from Link to the Past. Man, Four Swords is a great game for trolling. Ah, if only I could horribly irritate people in that game again…
And yep, an icy Zelda remix! The Electric Flute is by halc, and it’s a remix of Frozen Hyrule!
Welp, this is the last OILD post before the marathon! Please tweet, reblog, and spread the word! Also check out our prize page! So many great prizes being given out this marathon. Let everyone know and help out this great cause!
