Day 10 of Obligatory Ice Level Day! This is a goofy, fake holiday meant to build hype for The Speed Gamers’ Zelda marathon, which starts December 12th! We’re raising money for Mercy Corps, so I hope you all help us out by promoting and donating! You know, one game everyone at TSG seemed to be playing was Animal Crossing. And wouldn’t you know it, the AC series has its own holiday! That’s why today’s post is all about wintertime in Animal Crossing!
What? I took this shot myself! It’s of me and Zarla! And you can see like, 5 snowflakes in it! Okay, okay fine, here’s a more legit shot…
There, happy? Anyway! Animal Crossing! So, Animal Crossing is a game where you don’t fight anyone, nothing particularly bad happens, and everything’s adorable and sweet about 99.999% of the time. All you do is move into a town full of adorable talking animals, get your house built, fall into crippling debt to a greedy tanuki, and spend your days peacefully fishing, catching bugs, and collecting all sorts of silly crud for your house!
Winter is a fun little time in these games! As you can guess, snow will cover the ground and the evergreen trees will be decorated in festive lights. As the snow falls, you can collect the snowflakes. What are they for? Well, you can make (strangely sentient?) snowmen and trade the snowflakes for rare ice-themed furniture! The stores sell wintery items this time of year as well. But the highlight of winter in these games is Toy Day, an all-inclusive video game holiday. Hey, that sounds familiar! When Toy Day rolls around, your animal villagers can expect a visit from Jingle, a friendly caribou in a Santa suit. Jingle’s responsible for handing out gifts on Toy Day, but as with most tasks in this series, he needs your help. Hopefully all of you playing Animal Crossing: New Leaf can help him out and get some rare items in the process!
JINGLE BELLS, BATMAN SM–Hey wait, why aren’t there any bats in Animal Crossing?! It’d be adorable!
MUSIC! Northern Country Kamui is from Okami. But wait, there’s more from this awesome game! There’s also Wep’keer, the theme of the Oina village. Oki’s Theme plays when Oki shows up. Wakwu Shrine is a creepy song that plays when you enter the shrine on the way to the demons causing the blizzard. And The Twin Devils Lechku & Nechku’s Extermination plays during the subsequent boss fight.
Want an awesome Okami ice tune? Yeah you do! This guitar cover of Oki’s Theme is the best, and it’s by Jam2995!
The marathon’s coming up! Are you as nervous and excited as I am? BECAUSE I’M PRETTY DANG NERVOUS AND EXCITED, I GOTTA SAY! We have so many prizes to give out! So many games to play! And so many people to troll–err, I mean, to share this lovely holiday season with!
