Seth Green Not Joker in Mass Effect Movie

Legendary Entertainment, the company behind the Mass Effect movie, has finally released information about the project they have been working on, and one noticeable piece of intel is Seth Green will not be taking the role of Joker.

While fan backlash has been started over smaller things, it could be a clever swerve, or they are trying to put their own spin on it. The movie will also be an entirely new story as well as focus on male Commander Shepard – no timeline as to when, just the confirmation of what is not in it – so this won’t be an adaption of the soon to be finished trilogy. No other casting decisions – or indeed, what exclusions have been made certain, but Legendary – the company behind Inception and The Dark Knight, did state that Bioware were heavily involved in the process of making sure the story would fit in with the timeline.

With movies adapted from games being notoriously…meh, one of the greatest series in recent times now faces a challenge – will the new story, lack of two fan favourites in the form of FemShep and Seth Green be a hinderence, or will Legendary buck the trend? I’m desperately hoping for the latter.

Final Fantasy 13-2 Details Revealed by Motomu Toriyama

Famitsu, in a recent interview with the Director of Squeenix’s sequel to the lackluster Final Fantasy 13, revealed some details that may change cautious intruige into proper anticipation.

In an article translated by andriasang, Toriyama gave us more information to coincide with the promise of DLC and Chocobo Racing. One that will be a plus to those on the 360 is that pre-rendered cutscenes are more or less gone, now made in real time, so the game fits on one disc, rather than three. The  Crystarium growth chart from the first game comes back to, but will not limit your growth, so you can grind to your hearts content without any drawback from the start.

The biggest thing I can see that makes my brain do a happy face is the fact that not only can you change your party leader during battle, if they die, the battle continues. A potential question mark is over the inclusion of Quick Time Events, however it is reported there will be little to no penalty for failing them with only a subtle bonus if they are completed.

The sequel will see the light of day on January 31, 2012 in North America and February 3, 2012 in Europe.

Nintendo CEO Refuses To Expand Into Smartphones

Following his company’s press conference at the Tokyo Game Show, Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata stated clearer than ever that Nintendo would not be releasing any titles on Apple and Google’s platforms.

Iwata gave this statement, almost seemingly determined to stop these questions from appearing in future interviews. He said that:

“This is absolutely not under consideration. If we did this, Nintendo would cease to be Nintendo. Having a hardware development team in-house is a major strength. It’s the duty of management to make use of those strengths. It’s probably the correct decision in the sense that the moment we started to release games on smartphones we’d make profits. However, I believe my responsibility is not to short term profits, but to Nintendo’s mid and long term competitive strength.”

After a mixed showing at TGS with the positives of confirmed release dates for the new Mario Kart and Mario’s solo adventure, as well as the negatives of that extension, is this a wise move to rule out an avenue of profits?

Halo Creative Developer Leaves Halo 4

Ryan Payton, one of the creative developers for Halo 4 has left not only the development of the new installment to the Halo Universe, but the 343 Industries team altogether.

The former Metal Gear Solid 4 producer left the project, stating that “The Halo I wanted to build was fundamentally different and I don’t think I had built enough credibility to see such a crazy endeavor through.” The main thing stated in this news is that Payton feels Halo 4 won’t be a bad game, it’s just he did not like the direction it was going.

After a reported bout of depression, Payton decided that Halo 4 would be best left in the hands of someone who agreed with the direction, and has set up his own company, Camouflaj to fulfill his ambitions. Time will tell as to what Payton will make, or if Halo 4 is moving onto a good or bad path.

Rumour: 3DS Circle Pad Add-On Revealed? (Update)

With the Tokyo Games Show coming up, it’s no big surprise that rumours are flying around – however, this one appears to have a lot more weight behind it than most, with a picture appearing of what seems to be the attachment for the 3DS’s second analog stick.

As seen in the picture below, the image was revealed in Famitsu this week, showing the addition being a clip on cradle that also adds some shoulder buttons. There are high hopes that this will help the 3DS against the Vita with Monster Hunter series producer Ryuji Tsujimoto stating that it is indeed a “secret weapon”

Take a look, and see for yourselves whether it’s a mock-up, or completely legit under the more banner here.

Update: Kotaku has revealed a little more about the add-on, with the add on being more a cradle for the 3DS, and blocks the game slot and wireless switch, so that will be taken off to switch games every time. It’s being called ugly, and potentially one of the ugliest pieces of Nintendo Kit…What about the Virtual Boy?  Everything else seems to be unblocked though.

Sonic CD Coming To XBLA

PAX Prime has already seen a few announcements ahead of the actual event, but according to Larry Hryb a.k.a. Major Nelson, Sonic CD will be playable at PAX, due out on Xbox Live.

The Director of Programming at Xbox Live stated that in a post on his blog, Sonic CD would be at one of the booths, alongside other XBLA titles, as well as Mass Effect 3. Unfortunately no other information concerning release dates is available. Sonic CD was released in 1993, then again in 2005 as part of the Sonic Gems Colletion, however it has been the forgotten game of Sonic’s prime, arguably hailed as one of the best games in the series.

Notch Challenges Bethesda to Deathmatch over “Scrolls”

Notch has come up with a way that all lawsuits should be settled – a Quake 3 Deathmatch – to decide the outcome of the lawsuit issued by Bethesda’s lawyers.

Writing on his blog, the Minecraft Developer issued the challenge, asking Bethesda to choose three of their finest warriors against Mojang’s rather than the expensive way of in court. If Mojang won, the name of their new game would remain as Scrolls – if Bethesda won, it would be changed to something more Bethesda-Lawyer friendly. He also added at the end he could just add a disclaimer saying that Scrolls had nothing to do with The Elder Scrolls.

Is it wrong that I really, really hope they do this?

Nintendo Announce European Release Dates, Skyward Sword Hits November 18th

Today Nintendo have released a long list of games due out over the next few months, some with more vague release windows than others, however among them was the European release date for Link’s latest adventure in Skyward Sword.

Also in the list was The Last Story and Pandora’s Tower, two of the three games that Operation: Rainfall focused on last month, will be coming out to Europe on the Wii some point in 2012. Other notable titles include Kirby: Mass Attack (DS – 28 October), Super Mario 3D Land (3DS – November), Mario Kart 7 (3DS – December) and Professor Layton and the Spectre’s Touch (DS – November)

Unfortuantely still no solid release date for Cave Story 3D, though the DSiWare version is due out at some point in Q4 of this year.
