Day 1 of Obligatory Ice Level Day, and already we’re in a field of colors. You know, even though this holiday is made up, I think it’s safe to say that the holiday season itself promotes one important thing. That thing is peace. That’s why the first ice level of the year is Erana’s Peace, from Quest for Glory: So You Want to Be a Hero!
Hello everyone! It’s that time again! Time to bust out the pixellated sleds, learn that ice magic, and run from frost monsters. Time to see how closely chiptunes can resemble sleigh bells. Time to see how many snowflakes you can fit on the screen. It’s time for OBLIGATORY ICE LEVEL DAY!
Heya! It’s Day 12 of Obligatory Ice Level Day and the last day I’ll be posting these to the blog this year. I mean at this point it’d be kind of hard to keep count very well, so let’s just get to the point! From December 17-20 we’ll have our Pokémon Retrothon, playing the first two generations on the original Game Boy carts! There will be tons of surprises, and the more you donate, the more we’ll add to the stream! Secret games, prizes, stunts, and even the return of everyone’s favorite storyteller, Nob Ogasawara, translator of the first four generations of Pokémon games! 100% of the donations go directly to Rockin’ H Ranch, so tune in and help out a great cause! And because the Pokémon Retrothon is coming up, today’s ice level is Sinjoh Ruins, from Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver!
Day 11 and we’re finally winding down–err, around. Something like that! We here at TSG believe in heroes, you see. TRUE heroes. People who stand up for what they believe in. People who forge their own path. People who make a difference. Folks who, even when they stumble, still triumph over evil. Then, and only then, can they engage in the glorious celebration known as VICTORY ROTATIONS. That’s why today’s ice level is what I’ve dubbed The Return of Georgio, from Roundabout!
Hey, the big 1-0! We should throw a party! Parties are way more fun with friends, don’t you think? And just like a party, multiplayer games are the best when you have a lot of cool people playing on the same server. That’s why today’s ice level is the Snow Biome, from Terraria!
Day 9 of OILD and it’s time for some reflection. Every year around this time, I get to thinking about not just the history TSG has, but about the future too. Next year’s going to be huge! We’ve got some big ideas for our first-ever week-long Zelda marathon and trust me, you will not want to miss that. Everything’s hush-hush for now, but in 2016 you’ll hear all about it. And that’s why today’s ice level is the Ice Palace, from The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past!
Day 8 of OILD and I’ve got a pretty nostalgic level for you all. As a kid, I played a ton of Mega Man. In fact, Mega Man 2 was among the first games I ever played* so it’s a pretty special series for me. And hey, I even talked Toast through his first-ever victorious playthrough of MM2 during our last Mega Man marathon, so that’s even better! Mega Man is a series with quite a few ice levels to its name, so it’s hard to pick just one. I figured well, then why not feature an entire set of stages set in an icy environment? That’s why today’s ice level is Dr. Cossack’s Citadel, from Mega Man 4!
Lucky number 7! Hey, maybe we’ll hit the jackpot! So, as I mentioned yesterday, we had a great Mario marathon this year. It had so many funny and fantastic memories. And one of those memories is the unveiling of Untuxable’s Crypt of the Mushroomdancer mod for Necrodancer! It’s a total conversion, turning just about everything in the game into a colorful, adorable Mario character. You should check it out! We here at TSG have a history with Necrodancer, what with us giving the world a sneak peak at the game during our indiethon and getting a chance to interview the developers. That’s why today’s ice level is Zone 3, from Crypt of the Necrodancer!
Halfway through the ice levels! Which is just fine because we got so many more fun ones to show off. This year was pretty neat, I think. I mean after all, we did have a ton of fun during our week-long Mario marathon, and why wouldn’t we? It was a week of all of our favorite Mario games, doing stupid stunts, multiplayer madness, races, crawlathons, and other awesome memories! Something people really enjoyed was seeing the slow-motion replays in Mario Kart 8, and that’s when I realized there was a perfect ice level for this year. That’s why today’s level is Ice Ice Outpost, from Mario Kart 8!
Day 5 and going strong! It’s getting kind of cold around here, even where I live. Fortunately I still have my TSG hoodie to keep me warm. But what about you all? I hope you’re bundled up where you are, because the elements can really do a number on your health. That’s why today’s ice level is the King of Winter, from Don’t Starve!
