Chrono Trigger to Release on PSN Tuesday, For Real This Time

It was announced that Chrono Trigger would be hitting PSN a couple weeks ago, but apparently the PR guy tweeted something wrong because later that day it was shot down. Square Enix will be releasing it this Tuesday. There is no word of which version it will be or the cost, but I assume that it’s going to be the PS1 version and it will be sold in the Play Station Classic section of the store. Square Enix has a tendency to sell their bigger name RPG’s for about ten dollars instead of the average six. Check it out if you love Chrono Trigger or perhaps if you just never got around to playing it and want to check it out. While I don’t put Chrono Trigger on the pedestal that most do, I still recognize that it is one of the finest 16-bit RPG’s you can choose to play.

Chrono Trigger on Virtual Console

If you have been waiting to pick up the original SNES version of Chrono Trigger, you can do so now and so much cheaper! Today Square-Enix added Chrono Trigger to the Virtual Console.  The title will run you 800 points.

Chrono Trigger will offer you a lot of bang for your buck. Not only is it a full length RPG, but you can also complete the title multiple times for different endings.  The title can also be found on the PlayStation 1 and Nintendo DS and is scheduled to be coming to the PlayStation Network  fairly soon.

Of course if you’re too manly for Chrono Trigger, you can pick up Gabrielle’s Ghostly Groove: Monster Mix. Manly dancing with chibi-anime girls and zombies.  So much manly dancing.

Chrono Trigger is coming to North American Virtual Console May 16th

Fans of what is considered to be one of the greatest JRPG’s of all time may be displeased to hear that Panzer Dragoon Saga hasn’t had a HD remake yet, but while you wait, why not play Chrono Trigger! In a statement by Square Enix, the game will be hitting North American Virtual Console on May 16th. For those of you who never played the original SNES version or even the Playstation one port (Or as we call them, Europeans), Chrono Trigger involves you and your party time hopping from era to era in order to stop an arcane wizard from summoning Lavos, a monster of Tarrasque proportions from destroying the world. Fans of the game are likely aware of the DS port containing two extra dungeons, an extra ending (the original game had thirteen depending when you fought the final boss) as well as retaining the ten animé cut scenes brought in from the Playstation One port. Most notable of the changes was that the game had a more literal translation of the text. The general consensus is that while the DS version has a more faithful script, the SNES retained most of the charm of the japanese version and it is usually prefered by fans of the game. The game will cost 800 points and while it has been confirmed for Europe, there is no release date so far so I guess I’ll have to get back to Final Fantasy VI.

Chrono Trigger Rated for PSN

If you were sitting and waiting for a the Virtual Console release of Chrono Trigger to fill your downloadable needs, you might want to look elsewhere. The ESRB rated Chrono Trigger for PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Portable, so we can probably safely assume it will be getting a PSone Classic release on PSN.

The PSone release featured some animated videos, but had some lengthy loading times. I’m not too familiar with PSone classics, but I’d imagine the lack of the disc would improve loading times at least a little bit. But again I’m not positive if that is true for PSone Classics.

Either way, it’s probably coming. So if you don’t want to shell out the cash for a SNES release, play on a DS, or wait for a Virtual Console release, this may be a good option.
