Crytek Announced as Homefront 2 Developer

Today THQ not only announced that there will be a Homefront 2, but that original developer Kaos Studios isn’t in charge of making it. That honor goes to none other than Crytek- who will most likely use their award winning in-house Cry Engine to power the game.

Homefront‘s unique setting and storyline captivated gamers the world over,” THQ’s Danny Bilson said. “With Crytek’s industry leading technology and legendary experience in the FPS genre, we’re supremely confident that the next Homefront will deliver that AAA-quality experience that players demand.

Crytek CEO Cevat Yerli believes that his studio can turn Homefront into a “truly blockbuster game.”

With THQ desperately wanting the next Call of Duty, and pouring a truly massive marketing budget into the original, they must want results desperately if they’re willing to give the title to a third-party developer. On the other hand, this is definitely a game worth keeping an eye on…

Crytek Deny New Xbox Console and Timesplitters 4

You’ll remember last week when rumours were flying around that Crytek were working on a Timesplitters sequel, and fans everywhere rejoiced. Sadly, Crytek have come out and denied these rumours.

A statement from the developer stated that they “do not have any next generation hardware from Microsoft, nor do we know when Microsoft may announce future hardware or what that hardware will entail.” though why they took a week to come out and say this is not known.

There is speculation, however, that Microsoft are doing a double-bluff – stating there is no sequel or new console to help give the Kinect a bigger push, which would tie in with their Kinect-heavy E3 conference. At this moment in time, this will merely feed rumour mills.

Rumor: Xbox 360 Successor and TimeSplitters 4 to be Revealed at E3 2012

Wii U pretty much claimed the E3 prize, even if the show was a little uneventful compared to past years. But, according to Video Gamer, Microsoft might be already planning a big boom for E3 next year. A “high-ranking industry source” within Crytek claims that Microsoft is planning on revealing the successor to the Xbox 360 at E3 next year.

The same source claims that Crytek will be producing TimeSplitters 4 for “next generation consoles.” Supposedly a select few were able to see the title behind closed doors at E3, and it is being built on the Cry 3 engine.

The same source also claims that, from what he has heard, Sony is in the back of the pack in terms of their next generation console development. So they may be the last to market.

A rumor, and I’m sure by next years E3 we’ll probably have forgotten about it. But who knows, maybe it will show up.
