Final Fantasy XIII-2 Review

30 hour-long tutorial, linear gameplay – it’s safe to say Final Fantasy XIII isn’t going to be fondly remembered by most. Square Enix took the criticism it was force-fed and hid until they produced a sequel. Did they listen to the harsh criticisms, or will they stand stubborn in the face of adversity? Let’s find out.. Final Fantasy XIII-2 Confirmed in America January 2012

Final Fantasy XIII-2 is slashing it’s way to the Playstation 3 and Xbox360 in America slated for January 2012. The Japanese release of the title has a release of December 2011. Roughly a one month window of time between the two regions releases, which is shorter than the three month window that happened with Final Fantasy XIII. No announcement for other regions have been announced at this time.

I have yet to play Final Fantasy XIII, but XII-2 is starting to sound like it will be a great improvement. Director Motomu Toriyama, has stated that it will be “player driven” rather than “story driven”. So that exploration is widely more available to the player, and more choices and events are affected by decisions the player makes.

“player-driven. The player actively explores the world, and events take place based on his actions. It’s made to allow a lot of choices to be made by the player. Compared to XIII, we’re using very few prerendered scenes; it’s mostly realtime.”

So far it’s looking pretty good, we’ll keep you updated on further updates or changes.

Square Enix E3 2011 Lineup Revealed

Today the Europe Square Enix Members blog confirmed the company’s complete E3 lineup, as well as a promise to have a new Tomb Raider trailer up tomorrow. You can see the full list below.

  • FINAL FANTASY XIII-2 (PS3, Xbox 360)
  • Deus Ex: Human Revolution (PS3, Xbox 360, PC)
  • Hitman: Absolution (PS3, Xbox 360, PC)
  • Tomb Raider (PS3, Xbox 360, PC)
  • Dungeon Siege III (PS3, Xbox 360, PC)
  • Heroes of Ruin (Nintendo 3DS)

While it reveals nothing we didn’t already guess was going to be there, and Final Fantasy Versus XIII and Type-0 are both missing much to my chagrin, it will undoubtedly still prove to be a solid lineup at this year’s conference.

Keep your Final Fantasy XIII Save Data

Did you beat Final Fantasy XIII? Don’t delete that save data! Square-Enix advises fans to not delete the data as it will play some part in Final Fantasy XIII-2. Exactly what, they did not explain.

I haven’t picked up Final Fantasy XIII yet, but I still kind of want to. Most people I hear talk about it often say they haven’t beaten the title for one reason or another. It will be interesting to see how the title performs on the market considering that XIII didn’t exactly get the best reception.
