This seems like a silly question if I said it out loud, but the above acronym extends to the meaning “Guy in Real Life”, which gets – from what I’ve seen – a lot of negative attention as they are seen as weirdos, scammers or trolls. However, this can be rather unfair as girls who play as guys get little negative light in comparison. So today, I’ll be giving you examples that prove that there exists some positive reasons as to why guys decide to play as girls in an online game.

Everyday there are debates about what games are truly RPGs (role-playing games). Lots of people consider The Legend of Zelda series an RPG, when the series is actually an action-adventure title; with the exception of Zelda II: The Adventure of Link, which is an action RPG. There are some people who believe that an RPG is defined as playing the role of a character in the game. The issue with that statement revolves around the knowledge of every game. Every video game results in the gamer picking up some sort of controller and playing the role of a character in their video game of choice. With this knowledge, every game would be defined as an RPG.

Despite starting as a Microsoft published title on Xbox 360 and PC, the Mass Effect series branched out onto the PlayStation 3 with Mass Effect 2 thanks to Electronic Arts. The series, however, might be making another jump with its third entry.
On EA press site they list Mass Effect 3 for PC, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and “Next Gen.” Exactly what platform that is isn’t listed. Considering the Wii U is planned to be launched in 2012 as well, Nintendo’s platform is probably a good guess. That or maybe even the PlayStation Vita.
There’s always the possibility of it being a currently unannounced platform, but with rumored hardware launches pointing at 2013 at the earliest, that seems a bit far out.
Mass Effect 3 launches March 6, 2012 in North America, followed by a European release on March 9, 2012.
Legendary Entertainment, the company behind the Mass Effect movie, has finally released information about the project they have been working on, and one noticeable piece of intel is Seth Green will not be taking the role of Joker.
While fan backlash has been started over smaller things, it could be a clever swerve, or they are trying to put their own spin on it. The movie will also be an entirely new story as well as focus on male Commander Shepard – no timeline as to when, just the confirmation of what is not in it – so this won’t be an adaption of the soon to be finished trilogy. No other casting decisions – or indeed, what exclusions have been made certain, but Legendary – the company behind Inception and The Dark Knight, did state that Bioware were heavily involved in the process of making sure the story would fit in with the timeline.
With movies adapted from games being notoriously…meh, one of the greatest series in recent times now faces a challenge – will the new story, lack of two fan favourites in the form of FemShep and Seth Green be a hinderence, or will Legendary buck the trend? I’m desperately hoping for the latter.

We all know Mass Effect 3 is coming. It is just a matter of when it will be officially revealed. Sony Russia seems to already know when that when is.
Spike TV revealed a teaser video of BioWare’s next project, showing about a single second of footage for an unknown title. The gun in the trailer has confirmed by fans as one of the guns in the Mass Effect universe, so many are expecinting a new Mass Effect title… including Sony Russia. Sony Russia tweeted (rough translation) “The company Bioware for premium VGA showed a teaser in which we can see the first shots of Mass Effect 3.”
Speculation has going around that the title to be revealed is going to be a multiplayer spin-off title, but Sony Russia’s comment would make it seem that we are inbound for the third entry. Considering the third entry has already been confirmed, it wouldn’t be too surprising to see the title revealed.
Spike TV’s 2010 Video Game Awards will be broadcasting December 11th at 5 PM Pacific time. So be sure to tune in to find out exactly what this title is, and probably plenty of other announcements.
This weekend (or well today, now) Mass Effect is 50% off on steam. This puts the price point at $9.99. With Mass Effect 2 coming out within a few months, now is the right time to get into the series. Be sure to grab it by the end of the weekend.
