For those of you who haven’t been keeping up with the recent French Bread news (It’s rather tasty if I do say so myself!). They announced yesterday that thir new project entitled “Under Night in Birth” would be a HD fighting game at full widescreen resolution. The game itself will have a style that leads an homage to various light novels and detective novels. The game is ~40% complete and will be out at the end of the Winter. Along with this, a free patch for Melty Blood: Current Code will be avalible from this spring. The patch will include new characters such as Powered Ciel (Because Regular Ciel clearly wasn’t powerful enough) along with another character being added in the summer. Type Moon have also considered releasing a HD version of Melty Blood although at these early stages of development, nothing is certain. A trailer for Under Night in Birth can be viewed after the jump.
Some of you may remember that a couple of months ago, Ecole: The creaters of the Melty Blood series released some concept art for a new fighting game they were working on. The game would be independant of the popular Visual Novel group Type Moon who let Ecole use some of their characters in the series to boost sales. Well, as part of of the Hydra GP series (A series of fighting game competitions mainly focusing on Melty Blood), Ecole confirmed that during this Sunday, they would show the first trailer of their new title. This is a interesting project considering that Melty Blood: Current Code was released in the Arcades about four months ago and it’s yet to be seen if this new game will be a sucessor or a different entity completly. Either way, anyone who attends the event will recieve a catalogue showing off new visuals along with other interesting specs Melty Fans should be interested in. Sunday can’t arrive soon enough.
French Bread, most famous for working with Type Moon to create the fighting game series Melty Blood (which you can read more about here) confirmed through thier website that they are working on a new fighting game of an unknown title.
Nothing is really known about the game yet other than a picture of some early character designed concepts that have been posted on their website. The game itself hasn’t been produced for very long however now that French Bread have finished working on their previous title, a 2D side scrolling shooter called Lunaria released at Comiket, this should give the development team enough time to release a worthy sucesscor to Melty Blood.
Wut U Talkin Bout is a quick look at overlooked titles in gaming history, or a overlooked entry in a franchise.

To say fighting games are part of an odd genre is a grave understatement. After the huge success of Street Fighter II in the arcades, it seemed like every company in the world was trying to cash in on Capcom’s success by making cheap, and in some cases unplayable, knockoffs using the same formula of “Beat that guys health bar down to zero and then you win.” Of course, that was 1995. And now in the modern age of video games, it seems that 2D games have almost died out completely. The 4th iteration of the main Street Fighter franchise went 2.5D, King of Fighters became terrible with XII and Guilty Gear disappeared due to legal issues when Sega split as a company from Sammy. In recent years, there have only been two truly great 2D fighters: BlazBlue: Continuum Shift (Or in the delayed case of my country, Calamity Trigger) and of course: Melty Blood: Actress Again.
