Twisted Pixel Bought by Microsoft

The team behind ‘Splosion Man and his girlfriend Ms. ‘Splosion Man, Twisted Pixel, now belong to Microsoft after they were purchased in a deal recently.

The news broke on Major Nelson’s Blog, welcoming the former Indie Company to it’s ranks, following such companies as Rare and Lionhead Studios to promising exclusivity to the 360. This is potentially the first step in the XBLA and PSN becoming two distinct offerings, rather than oddly similar markets, with more and more exclusives coming out for both consoles.

Twisted Pixel, who were also responsible for The Maw, and GunStringer, have not mentioned what games they have in the works for their new bosses, but time will tell just what they can bring to the XBLA table.

New 320GB 360S HDD Coming Next Month

Bought a new 250GB Slim model 360 only to be outclassed by your buddies and their shiny new limited edition consoles, rubbing their larger hard drives in your face?

Well, put your jealousy to rest later this month when Microsoft makes that same hard drive available to buy for a measly $129.99! And to make it even more tempting, they’re throwing in a free download of LEGO Star Wars III!

And considering that’s currently the price point of the 250GB hard drive, it’s more than likely the smaller option will get a reduced price soon as well.

Multiple MS Employee LinkedIn Resumes List Next Generation Xbox Development

Four LinkedIn resumes suggest that a next generation Xbox has been in development since at least September of 2011. Jeff Faulkner, Jonathan Harris, Patrick Corrigan and Joe Langevin all list working on next generation Xbox hardware.

Super Annuation was tipped the LinkedIn pages, but the listings don’t tell us how far along the project is.  Thanks to Harris, we know that the project is over a year old.

Over the last year or so rumors started spreading about software developers getting early glimpses at next generation Xbox hardware has been spreading about. We’ve even heard some rumors that internal developers like RARE are now turning their focus to the new platform.

For now, nothing is confirmed.

Xbox360 S Models Changing Matte Finish

If you’re a person who loves to have shiny and glossy items in your house, you might not be pleased with this. Microsoft has decided to change the outer finish of their Xbox 360 models from glossy to matte.

Glossy is that beautiful, shiny finish, but has a nasty down side by getting incredibly dirty from a single touch. Finger prints and hand prints everywhere. Most people know of gloss, but what about matte? Matte is a rough and coarse finish that feels slightly weird in the hand. It’s does not reflect light, like gloss does and it doesn’t get as dirty as it’s beautiful brother.

So if you’re a person who prefers a glossy console, pick up your Xbox 360 soon because Microsoft is making and shipping out those matte bad boys within the next few weeks.

“We are actively transitioning all our Xbox 360 S consoles to a matte finish.  The consoles will start to arrive in stores over the coming weeks, so if you really love the idea of a glossy console don’t wait much longer. Of course, we still may offer a gloss finish on Limited Edition consoles like the upcoming Gears of War 3, but if you have your eye on a glossy black console you don’t have much time left.”

Star Wars Kinect Limited Edition 360 Bundle Announced

Coming out this Holiday season, the Star Wars Kinect bundle is definitely something that catches the eye.

It includes a 320 GB Slim model Xbox 360 with an R2-D2 paintjob and custom disc tray and power sounds, a special white Kinect, a special C-3P0 golden wireless 360 controller(one of the new models with the transforming D-Pad), a wired headset, Kinect Adventures, and of course Star Wars Kinect with exclusive downloadable goodies.

And the best part is that all this can be yours for the low price of $449(same price as a 250 GB/Kinect Bundle and Star Wars Kinect if purchased individually).

I’ve been looking for a reason to upgrade to a slim model, and this just might be what does it for me…

Gizmodo has a brief hands-on video that lets you hear the custom R2-D2 system sounds.

Gears of War 3 Campaign Trailer

E3 is only a couple weeks away, but Microsoft is already rolling out a Gears of War 3 trailer.  As with the last two Gears of War titles, the third entry features manly men doing manly things, like shooting things with guns and chainsawing things with chainsaws. This time around there is even a manly woman doing manly things.

Aside from Forza 4, this is the only title Microsoft has announced in their pipeline for 2011. We’re bound to see both more of Gears of War 3 and new titles on June 6th, when Microsoft holds their E3 press conference.

Alan Wake 2 Listing Found in Developer Resume

Althea Suarez Gata, Previs Artist at The Graphic Film Company, might have updated her resume  a bit earlier than Microsoft would have wanted her to. According to her resume, she’s been working on in-game cinemas for Alan Wake 2, a title that has yet to be announced. Whoops.

Alan Wake was received very well by both consumers and critics when it was finally released early last year, after the title had been in development for over five years.  The development team in the past said it would love to work on a sequel, as long as Microsoft would green light it. Late last year we learned that they were working on a AAA project, just not exactly what.

Hopefully we’ll get a peek at E3.

Rumor: 360 Successor Dev Kits at EA (Update)

Nintendo stole the spotlight a couple weeks ago when the first Wii 2 details leaked. And while information has slowed down, the rumors keep on flowing. But developers might not be only getting in Nintendo’s dev kits on their doorstep soon. According to Develop-Online‘s inside source, an unnamed EA studio has their hands on the dev kits for Microsoft’s next platform. Admittedly they seem to be extremely early builds, with all the components only in standard PC shell.

Developer Online’s inside source also claims that the platform will work with Kinect and even offer enhanced support. He speculates that Microsoft might be rushing for an E3 reveal to steal Nintendo’s thunder, and that the platform might launch at the end of 2012. Eurogamer’s source tells another story about the reveal, saying it seems highly unlikely for a E3 2011 reveal.

Update: EA has told Industry Gamer that the rumor is a “total fabrication.”
