Sure NGP is on the way, but it can’t play those lovely UMD discs! If you want to experience titles that only appeared on the UMD, you’ll have to get a PSP-3000! Now it is cheaper than ever before to pick one up.
Sony announced today that it will be dropping the PSP-3000’s price point to $129.99 starting February 27th. What do you do with all that money you have saved? Buy PSP Games! Sony is also making that process cheaper as well, dropping the price on many of their titles.
Sony will be adding seven titles to their Greatest Hits line. Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, Dissidia Final Fantasy, LittleBigPlanet, Assassin’s Creed Bloodlines, Ratchet and Clank: Size Matters, Resistance Retribution and Toy Story 3: The Video Game all will be at the appealing price point of $19.99.
Want more bang for your buck? Sony is also adding six titles to their PSP Favorites line up. Crisis Core – Final Fantasy VII, Daxter, Monster Hunter Freedom Unite, Killzone: Liberation, SOCOM U.S. Navy Seals: Fire Team Bravo, and Tomb Raider Anniversary are at the even more affordable price point of $9.99.
If you’re looking for an affordable platform with affordable software, PSP is a better option now than ever.

Yet more news from Famitsu today! For anyone who thought that six ports wasn’t enough, FFIV PSP will be the definitive release of the game including redone sprites, arranged music (You can switch to the original music any time you want), a gallery mode including pictures and movies included in the game as well as bundling in FFIV: The After Years which was previously only avaliable through Japanese cell phones and through WiiWare. As well as containing these, a brand new chapter would also be included in the collection. The chapter entitled “Interlude” will be created by Takashi Tokida who originally worked on FFIV and it will take place between the two games, starting with the heroes gathering at Damcyan castle to mark the recovery of the castle. The game will have its regular and standard editions released on March 24th and there is no word on an English localisation (It’s Final Fantasy so it’ll probably happen).
While the PSP sold well, software wise the platform hasn’t been preforming well at all. Some blame piracy, but it’s hard to say. With the NGP, Sony plans on reviving some of these titles for a new audience.
We already know about Sony’s plans on the digital level for it, allowing certain PSP titles to be downloaded, but they also plan to do so via retailers as well. PSP titles will be re-released on standard NGP cards. Whether or not the retail versions will have any enhancements over the downloadable versions hasn’t been said.
The NGP lacks a UMD slot. So, like with the PSPgo, you most likely will have to keep those to your current PSP. Sony said they’re looking into options for transferring UMDs to digital content, but still have no answers for fans at the moment.
Gachitora! is about an ex-yakuza who for reasons we don’t currently know has to become a teacher and teach a classroom full of kids from a Popstar to a Punk. While you are really just talking to the students to solve their problems these problems are represented by physical things that you can beat down. So it’s not incredibly different than Kenka Bancho but still that story sounds crazy. Other than the beat-em-up part of the game there are also mini-games such as quizzes and sports that help you solve the teen’s problems. Of course the game is going to be on the PSP next spring in Japan.
See what I did there? Guilty Gear’s Spiritual Sequel’s updated Sequel will be released for the PSP on March 31st according to the gaming retail company Gamestar. The game will contain 18 characters which include Hazama who is freshly nerfed in this iteration along with Slayer (Valkenhyrn), a Furry (Makato) and whatever the hell Platinum the Trinity is. Along with the full roster that includes the DLC characters (Valkenhyrn and Makato are on sale for any US PSN users (Sale doesn’t apply to UK PSN thanks to the trolls at Aksys who hold a Guilty Gear X BlazBlue music conert and don’t send me a private invitation)), The game will include full voice acting and brand new scenarios for each of the characters.
With the release of Calamity Trigger on the PSP, Arc Systems are following it up with the announcement of BlazBlue: Continuum Shift II for the PSP. CSII was recently released in the arcades which is an updated version of CS with gameplay and balancing tweaks along with Makoto, Platinum and Valkenhyrn added as additional characters. The game contains *cough*Talesofthe*cough* Abyss mode and a 4 player mode which works like a mini tournament mode. In addition to this, Arc System Works are holding a Guilty Gar X BlazBlue rock concert displaying live versions of song from both games for anyone lucky enough to go. The Concert will take place on the 22nd of January so if anyone’s willing to buy me a plane ticket to Japan, I’ll be most greatful (Return ticket not needed).
The latest from designer Swery 65 is coming to North American PSP’s in January. The game is essentially a slightly speedier Monster Hunter clone, but I want Deadly Premonition 2 so hopefully this thing will sell some units. This game really gives of a derivative vibe to me and from some people who had interviews with Swery they have said that his heart does not seem in this game. Instead of making this about the greatest game designer of our generation though lets focus on the game. It’s coming from Square Enix and it’s out pretty soon. If you just cannot wait for Monster Hunter Portable Third, maybe check it out.
While SNK is unloading their large backlog of games onto XBLA (KOF2002UM came out a couple of weeks ago), They are continuing to release new titles on regular basis ranging from good (Neo Geo: Ultimate Shooting Collection) to bad (King of Fighters XII) to the downright bizzare (Trouble Witches). Speking of NG:USC, ESRB accidently let slip that the gae would be getting an international releassefor the PSP. The game is considered to be a Spiritual Sequel to KOF: Sky Stage that was released on XBLA a couple of months ago (It’s also an unlockable game in NG:USC itself). The game itself contains ten playable characters with the main bulk being from the KOF series with other characters from there SNK series most noticeable being Marco from Metal Slug. No release dat has been confirmed as of yet.
A week ago SEGA held a Valkyria Chronicles 3 event in Japan that gave the Japanese press an early look at the official game demo set for release on PlayStation Network this week. The event included some Q&A with questions asked by the audience and from the internet and twitter feeds.
Check out some of the Q&A after the jump. Continue reading Some New Details on Valkyria Chronicles 3
Black Friday just doesn’t seem to want to wait for Thanksgiving. That, or a lot of businesses are really itching to break profit in this quarter. Or perhaps the divine gaming gods are smiling down upon is this season.
FOR THIS COMING FRIDAY AND SATURDAY ONLY, Best Buy is offering the PSP Go for a ridiculously discounted $150, when the system can usually get snagged for $200. This is a great Christmas deal for gamers on a budget, or even for people like me that want to stock up on the great year-end deals.
