The DSI exclusive sequel to Shantae (Cult Platformer for the GBC that currently sells for triple digit figures.) has been recieving numerous excellent reviews when it was first released however as of yet it had not had a confirmed release date for the UK. Some people (myself included) were skeptical if the game would ever be released in the UK since the original was never released over here and no indication had been given that the game would be released over here at all. Luckily for us, WayForward responded to all of their fan requests for a release of the game with a small message through Twitter:
“Great news! The European version of Risky’s Revenge is currently in submissions, and will be available on the DSiWare store in 3 to 8 weeks.”
This is great news for anyone who bought a DSI just to get this game in the UK (*cough*) and hopefully this and the DSI Port of Cave Story will allow a flurry of interesting DSIWare titles to be released.
Shantae: Risky’s Revenge, the sequel to the popular Gameboy Color platformer, Shantae, had been giving an official release date. The game, developed by WayForward Technologies, will be coming to DSi Ware on October 4th, 2010.
The original sequel to Shantae, Shantae Advance, was presumably cancelled after its announcement a few years ago. It seems that WayForward has FINALLY stopped pushing the game back from its original planned release of Holiday 2009.
A few weeks ago WayForward tweeted about Nintendo Power’s DSiWare surprise title, while many guessed Shantae it wasn’t confirmed till this month’s Nintendo Power preview. The preview scan confirmed Shantae will be arriving on DSiWare in three episodic titles coming to Nintendo DS. The first of which is Shantae: Risky’s Revenge which will be hitting DSiWare later this year.
The original Shantae was released so late in the Game Boy Color’s life cycle that many people didn’t get a chance to play it. I was one of them who didn’t, but if I ever get a DSi I’ll definitely look giving the series a shot. Did you play the first one and will you be picking up the new titles?
The preview scan is after the jump.

With Nintendo’s announcement of their new top down shooter in Japan, it looked like Nintendo Powers DSi Announcement may have been spoiled. That may not be the case though. Wayforward (developer of Flip Champs on DSiWare and Lit on WiiWare) tweeted “Nintendo Power teasing a MAJOR DSiWare release in the next issue? AND it will make many gamers ‘very, very happy’? Hmmm.” It seems strange for a company to do such a thing on their company twitter unless they were involved.
Many people are already speculating it to be a sequel to the Shantae Game Boy Color game which was a cult classic because of their recent image for twitter which has Shantae’s Gameboy Advance title which was canceled.
