Sledgehammer has now been confirmed to be working alongside Infinity Ward in the development of Modern Warfare 3, the latest entry in the popular Call of Duty series. Honestly, this isn’t much of a surprise at all, seeing as how job listings for Sledgehammer openly announced that the company would be working on the next CoD game.
Apparently, the two companies are “equally sharing” development for the Campaign feature, while another company, namely Raven Software, will be developing the multiplayer aspect.
Infinity Ward has gone through a lot of turmoil lately since Activision fired Jason West and Vince Zampella, the head guys over at Infinity Ward, so it was pretty apparent that Infinity Ward wasn’t going to be able to handle this task alone. Sledgehammer was working on a Call of Duty spinoff before the upheaval at Infinity Ward, but have now put that project on hold to focus on Modern Warfare 3.
As is the norm for CoD, the game is expected for release in November 2011. It just goes to show how massive CoD has really become, seeing as there are 4 different companies working on it at once (including Treyarch, who recently developed Black Ops).
