Man it’s cold in this room. But what could you expect from Obligatory Ice Level Day, right? There’s an OILD ’11 Facebook page, not to mention the games by our buddies at Fantasy Kingdoms! The cameos continue as today’s write-up is done by a special guest! It’s Alton Plaza, from Snatcher!
Yes, sadly my time here has come and gone. I became TSG’s artist during the Final Fantasy marathon, and it’s been a crazy ride! But clearly it is time for me to go.
When I walked into TSG’s office last week, Britt was sitting at his desk with his arms folded. “Sit down,” he said sternly, “we need to talk.” I asked him where I was supposed to sit when there weren’t any chairs available, and he pointed to the center of the floor. I squinted and finally spotted the little doll house recliner sitting where any functional human brain would place a normal chair. Faced with no other option, I crouched just above the tiny toy chair, as if I was frightened by it and was showing it my butt as some kind of animalistic threat display.
“Ana–” he began. I interrupted to remind him that’s not my real name, but he interrupted my interruption with a karate chop to the appendix and neck. Having seen his side of the story, I chose to no longer press the issue. “Your art’s been on the decline,” he said, “what started off as Passable At Best has now slid back into ComicGenesis Vomited into my eye sockets and posted a video of it on Youtube and then it goes viral and you see hundreds of copycat videos trying to score a few views and then memes sprout up about how bad it is and then a local news affiliate warns parents that their kids might be using it as a secret code in order to illegally download drugs from the internets.” I couldn’t help but feel like his metaphor broke down at some point, but that might have just been the internal bleeding talking.
So yes, I have been unceremoniously fired. Well, “unceremoniously” is probably too strong a word, since the moment I walked out of the office I stepped into a “YAY SHE’S FINALLY GONE WE ARE FREE ONCE AGAIN” techno dance party in the next room. Many thanks to Local for putting that together at the last minute; IT WAS A BLAST! But anyway, I’ll miss you all! And please be nice to Oscar; it’s not easy being the artist, but he’s promised to do his best!
Here’s one last image to remember me by…
In a move that shocked EVERYONE, While Marvelous have been working on 30 second Hero for the PSP, Korea’s Video Game Rating board revealed the title “Half Minute Hero: Super Mega Neo Climax” as a trademark for XBLA. The trademark was put down by Microsoft which is interesting considering that Cyberfront Korea usually publishes the series (Half Minute Hero and Hero 30 were originally trademarked by Cyberfront). However this is a minor issue at best considering that cross trademarkig has occured before. For anyone hoping for an English release, the name has also been trademarked by Australia’s ratings board so HMH fans may be in luck this time.
I’m as amazed as you are.
The composer of the cult XBLA/Steam hit Super Meat Boy Danny Baranowsky confirmed today that The Battle of Lil’ Slugger, Can O’ Salt and a remix of Betus Blues will be appearing as DLC for Rock Band Network 2.0. When talking to Joystiq about the rather unusual annoucement, Danny said in response:
“I wanted to have some stuff in there for the people who delight in 100-percenting expert Dragonforce,” threatened Baranowsky – who also wrote the music for iPhone indie hit Canabalt. There is no word of a release date however Danny assured Rock Band masochists that the tracks should be out sometime in the future. In other Meat Boy news, a new level pack will be due to the Xbox 360. and the Level editor will be released for the PC version any day now.
Oh yeah, let’s keep on moving! OILD is all about giving, so today we’re going to look at a game that’s freely available online! Though you’ll have to find an English patch for it. This ice level is actually somewhat notorious on the internet, though not in a way you’d guess. It’s the Snow World, from Yume Nikki!
Ok so, the Pokémon from Black and White have been leaked onto the internet. Some of them I really like, while others look incredibly stupid. Still others look so hilarious that I may just have to train them for laughs. ANYWAY, Serebii.net has images of all the Pokémon here (WARNING: OBVIOUS SPOILERS!!) . Toast and I were looking through them, and he thought #559 looked pretty funny. He said “I would love to see #559 just putting its face creepily close to another Pokémon and staring right at it.” I agreed, so here we are. (WARNING: OBVIOUS SPOILERS AGAIN BUT REALLY YOU WOULDN’T BE ABLE TO TELL WHAT IT WAS ANYWAY SO WHATEVER??):
PRESENTED WITHOUT COMMENT
So The Escapist (aka That Site With The British-Australian Who Talks Real Fast ‘Bout Video Games) held a webcomic contest. You had to submit four pages and if you won, you’d get a paid job making the comic for their site. As with every single other aspect of my life, I took it 100% seriously and gave it my all. I made a beautifully illustrated epic starring four multi-faceted characters with clear motivations and personalities, all based on Miis I made when I first got my Wii!
Check it out under the cut!
So I’m sure you all have heard by now that NBC is trying to mess with The Tonight Show’s timeslot. Conan may not be hosting the show much longer, and as a goof, he’s posted the show onto Craigslist.
What you may not know is, I’m making him an offer.
Hey Conan and Andy (and hey, why not Max and the band too?),
More after the break
Hey there! The marathon is STILL going strong! So much awesomeness! Naming the legendaries, donating shiny Pokémon, and raising lots of money for Ally’s House! But there’s still more to do! Keep up the good work! Today’s ice level is a bit… odd. It’s the… “Icy Supermarket”…?? A level from Yo! Noid.
So I says to TSG, I says, “What levels would be good for Obligatory Ice Level Day?” The conversation that ensued was confusing at best.
“Die Hard!” Local suggested. I reminded him that Die Hard was a movie, not a video game level. He then repeated his answer several times until we reached an agreement that Die Hard was rad enough to be included anyway. “So what stages can I include that are as good as Die Hard?” After some discussion, all of us decided that no stage was good enough. This is why the original OILD list was Die Hard 25 times. While widely considered to be THE GREATEST LIST OF ANYTHING EVER MADE, someone* decided that maybe Obligatory Ice Level Day should have some obligatory ice levels. After I lost two of my toes and three of my ribs in the subsequent kung fu fight, I agreed.
So then Phil suggested a game that, as he put it, “changed [his] life forever.” He insisted that I guess which one. The guessing went on well into the night, long after Phil’s voice went hoarse from giggling girlishly at all of my incorrect responses. “YO! NOID!” he shouted. I didn’t think much of it at the time, since everyone knows Phil screams that every hour, on the hour. Eventually he explained that I should draw something from Yo! Noid. I couldn’t believe I hadn’t thought of it sooner, since Yo! Noid ranks anywhere from 97-99 of The Top 100 Games About Pizza Chain Mascots. How could I ignore such a classic?
Wait, where was I? Oh, yeah. Yo! Noid is actually a modified version of Kamen no Ninja Hanamaru, a game about a little ninja kid with a hawk friend. I don’t think this stage even has a real name; “Icy Supermarket” is the name I got off of GameFAQs.
Today’s wallpaper! “DUDE YOU SO DID THAT AS A GOOF!” NUH-UH! Get this glorious work of art here!
And oh yessir, we have music! Controlling Transmission is the theme of Glacius, the icy alien from Killer Instinct! And it reeks of 90’s attempts at sounding hardcore! OH, NOSTALGIA!
Ok, so to make up for my goofy stupidity in this post, I’ll post MANY REMIXES. Dwelling of Duels actually had a “Fire vs. Ice” duel, and there are many ice remixes on that page, including a few I’ve posted this month! Check them all out, why don’t you?
And make sure to stop by the OILD page and download the soundtrack! You’ll love it lots, oh yes you will!
