Our 2018 Pokemon marathon is now in the books! We raised over $17,000 for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital this past week. Thank you for all of the support throughout the event and over our ten year history!
The rest of 2018 is jam-packed with TSG events. Very soon we will be at Camp Fangamer (July 21-22), their ten-year anniversary, too. You will be able to watch us live stream a variety of Fangamer games while raising money for charity. More details soon!
Our next marathon is “SoulsBorne” (Dark Souls+Bloodborne franchises) October 12-15 for Direct Relief. Prepare to watch us die — A LOT. We will have a good mix of goofy runs and equally bizarre commentary.
Our last marathon of 2018 will be “Nintendo All-Stars” December 14-17 for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. We will be picking from Nintendo’s huge catalog of games that spans several generations. You will see everything from Battletoads on the NES to Super Smash Bros Ultimate on the Nintendo Switch.
Finally, we have announced our weeklong event for next year, The Legend of Zelda Marathon 2019: Hyrule vs. Lorule II. This event is planned for July 2019. This marathon will be a follow up to our successful 2016 Hyrule vs. Lorule marathon.
While you wait for our events, please join the community and hang out in our discord! Discord.gg/tsg
Year 10 for TSG started out with a bang. We raised $10,600 for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital during our 96 hour Zelda Marathon. Thank you to all of the attendees, moderators and viewers for making this event so successful. There were so many special moments that we will never forget. Also, an extra special thank you to the Zeldathon attendees Kampy and Doug. It was awesome being able to meet them and have them take part in the event.
Things don’t slow down for us as we prepare for our upcoming Pokemon Marathon June 8-15. We are proud to announce that this event will also be for St. Jude. It has been 4 years since we have attempted to catch all of the Pokemon and in that time the capture number has grown. We are now tasked with catching over 800 Pokemon. It will be a challenge and can’t wait to broadcast our adventure starting June 8th on twitch.tv/thespeedgamers . See yo the chat!
Team Rosters and Schedule (subject to change): http://bit.ly/1WKJ0gK
Rules recap: Attendees have been divided into two teams, Hyrule and Lorule. There are 14 games being played by each team. For each run, a player starts with 5 points. Each death results in a loss of one point. If a runner beats their goal time, they will receive a bonus point. During races, the winning runner will get 3 points for their team. At the end of the marathon, the team with the most points will be awarded the Tri-Hard Championship.
Daily points up for grabs!: There will be around 3 points per day that the chat/community will have an impact on which team gets the points. We will be running promotional contests, fan art, auctions and more to decide which teams are worthy of the points.
Buy items at the Curiosity Shop to help your team!: When donating you will be able to purchase items from the Curiosity Shop that will impact the player. For example, by putting “arrows” in a donation comment $30 or higher will result in an automated nerf gun firing arrows at the player. We have several other items rigged up to an Arduino board that will trigger from keywords in donation comments. A list of items and their prices will be available during the marathon.
And more: Prizes, shirts and more will be detailed in the coming weeks.
The Zelda Marathon “Hyrule v.s Lorule” is benefiting St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital
This post is meant to shed some light on the format of our Zelda Marathon. We are dividing our marathon attendees into two teams, Team Hyrule (light world)and Lorule (dark world) . Every run will net a team points depending on their performance. A run will start with 5 points and each death will be a loss of one point. At the end of the run the the points will be added to the teams total score. For example, if I’m on team Hyrule and I play Majora’s Mask with 1 death, I will gain 4 points for team Hyrule. The runners will also each set their own goal times. If the goal time is beaten, you gain an additional bonus point for your team. There will also be races that will gain the winning player +3 points for their team.
Each day there will be a few points up for grabs that will be decided by viewer participation. Fan art, promotion, etc. Another example, “Today community member Evandeck received the most retweets promoting the Zelda marathon. Evandeck can now choose which team he would like to give one point to.” There are other contributing factors and partnerships that we will be revealing as we get closer to the marathon.
I think fun competition will be a great way to highlight our strengths , raise a great amount of money for charity, and have a great time with the community. Teams and more information will be announced in upcoming blog posts.
The Zelda Marathon is 1 week long, June 24-July 1 for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
The marathon’s coming up! It’s Day 11 of Obligatory Ice Level Day and I can’t wait to see you all there! This is a goofy, fake holiday meant to build hype for The Speed Gamers’ Zelda marathon, which starts December 12th! We’re raising money for Mercy Corps, so I hope you all help us out by promoting and donating! As you know, Zelda is TSG’s bread and butter. It’s the series they started on, and it’s the series they’ll end on… for this year, anyway. That’s why today’s ice level is Ice Ring Isle, from The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker!

Starting on Friday December 13th at 6pm CST we will be playing the Zelda franchise for 72 hours continuously while raising money for Mercy Corps (http://www.mercycorps.org/). We have a goal of $15,000 and if we reach that goal by Monday December 16th we will extend the marathon by another 24 hours. The Mercy Corps is currently helping those affected by the typhoon in the Philippines by providing emergency relief. You can watch all of the game play and commentary right here on TheSpeedGamers.com
As well as our donation goal we also have a difficult game play goal. We want to complete every Zelda game in under 72 hours. This is going to be hard but we have been practicing hard to make this happen. Soon we will post a game schedule so you can see when your favorite games will be played.
So far we have had many great prizes donated to us and Mayday22 has informed me of many more that are soon to arrive. We will update our new prize page as the prizes come in so keep checking back to TheSpeedGamers.com/prizes
You know what you love? Original art! You love it! You loooove iiiiiit. And you know which artist is your favorite? It’s Nina Matsumoto! So hmm, what would make for some nice prizes for the Zelda marathon…

In the past, Halloween themed marathon’s have been tough to promote and raise money for. Not the case this past weekend. The community did an amazing job and made the event one of our best ever. The 2013 edition of the Halloween marathon ranks 4th all time for our 72 hour events behind Pokemon 09′ , Retro Pokemon 11′, and Zelda 11′. AMAZING!! In total you guys raised over $14,500 for Heifer.org. With all this energy and excitement it’s tough to keep a lid on some of the future plans that TSG has. You guys give so much enjoyment to us. We are truly thankful.
Now we turn our focus to the Zelda marathon (December 13-16). This series is our bread and butter and where TSG got started in 2008. I’d love for our next event to take over the #1 spot. Promotion and partnerships will be key to doing so. The preparations start tomorrow and I can’t wait to see all of you again in the chat in just a few short months.
The Final Fantasy Marathon is in the books! Everybody involved did a great job, a complete team effort. We ended raising $32, 753 for ACT Today. That ranks as our 4th most successful marathon. We have now surpassed $425,000 total raised for various charities/causes. All prize winners from the FF marathon should be notified soon.
We’ve started transitioning into planning for our upcoming Halloween (Oct 18-21) and Zelda (Dec 13-16) marathons. Soon you should see changes to the front page banner and forums as well as their backgrounds. If you need you need access to the marathon planning forum, please either pm/tweet/email me. You will also see a batch of new community/forum events and contests soon.
We’ve got some big ideas for each of our next couple of marathons. I’ll be posting about them over the next several weeks on the blog. Thank you guys for supporting us over the 5+ years. We’ve got a lot planned for the future.
What a great event! Best ever? Quite possibly. I cannot thank the community enough for the job they did during our marathon. Promotion, activity, energy, you guys had it all. We are just shy of raising $20,000 for Rocking H Ranch. Right now we stand at $19,700 but you are still able to donate. We thought our goal of $15,000 would be hard to achieve, but just a couple of hours in we knew it was was going to happen. We could not have done it without our great promoters and all of our friends from around the internet who showed up help push us to our goal. A special thanks to Fangamer for their continued support and amazing prize donations. Also, thank you to the indie gaming devs and teams that supplied us with their games for giveaways; Team Meat, Humble Indie Bundle, Super Giant Games and Indie Royale.
I’m going to start work on a retrospective video like I typically do after our big events. Look for it to be posted within the week on our youtube channel. Be sure to sign up to forums if you have not already.
Stay tuned for more news about our upcoming events. We look forward this summer (June) to putting on a great event for ACT Today and also to catching all the Pokemon.
