The earthquake that devestated Japan has caused more than its fair share of issues in the gaming industry. Some games have been delayed, and in one case canceled. A couple of smaller events have been canceled as well. But what about the juggernaut that is the Tokyo Game Show? It’s still on, but it may be downsized this year.
Kotaku Japan contacted the management group of Tokyo Game Show. According to Kotaku’s translation, they said “Currently, we are not thinking of canceling or making the show smaller. Depending on the situation from here on out, it is possible that the show is reduced.”
Kotaku also points out that, for economic reasons, some developers and publishers may not attend. And the more concerning note, the question of if the Makuhari Messe, the building at which the event takes place, has taken any structural damage.
Over the years, Tokyo Game Show hasn’t exactly been the big event it used to be, but still some juicy tidbits come out of it. Hopefully the earthquake won’t have too big of an impact.
