OILD: Goland Coal City

Day 4 of Obligatory Ice Level Day! This is a goofy, fake holiday meant to build hype for The Speed Gamers’ Zelda marathon, which starts December 12th! We’re raising money for Mercy Corps, so I hope you all help us out by promoting and donating! The Final Fantasy marathon was so great. We raised a bunch of money, wore a bunch of zippers, and learned a bunch of lessons about the power of friendship. That’s why today’s ice level is Goland Coal City, from Final Fantasy Tactics!

Final Fantasy Tactics is a game about uhh… umm… I uhh… okay, I admit I have no clue what the story to FFT was about. Something about a church? And a disciple? And a war between two halves of a country, and a lot of deception and demons and crystals named after zodiac signs and strange summoning rituals I um… just… whatever. It’s about weirdo noseless dancing sprites and their quest to explode each other. Also, Pope Skeleton.

Anyway, Goland Coal City is pretty easy to understand. It’s a map with a single house to stand on. In the city, our game’s hero Ramza (or BANANA HAT!!!!!!!!! as I named him) finds a man named Olan. Olan’s being chased by evil soldiers for reasons far too complicated for a silly noseless dancing sprite game, and the goal is to protect him from the enemy. Now, the cool thing about Olan is that he has the best spell ever, and that spell is Galaxy Stop. Galaxy Stop casts Stop on every enemy on the map, which as you might guess is pretty helpful when it comes to saving a guy. After rescuing Olan, a bunch of crazy nonsense happens. Because Final Fantasy.

Reeemiiix! Umaro Uematsu is a remix of Umaro’s theme from Final Fantasy 6, and it’s by Quinn Fox! Light and Flakey is a remix of Buried in Snow from Final Fantasy 7, by Siamey! Journey’s End is a remix of People of the North Pole, and it’s by GrayLightning, Jillian Aversa, and sephfire!

Did you remember to promote the marathon? You better! Mercy Corps needs our help, and we in turn need yours!
