Heya! It’s Day 12 of Obligatory Ice Level Day and the last day I’ll be posting these to the blog this year. I mean at this point it’d be kind of hard to keep count very well, so let’s just get to the point! From December 17-20 we’ll have our Pokémon Retrothon, playing the first two generations on the original Game Boy carts! There will be tons of surprises, and the more you donate, the more we’ll add to the stream! Secret games, prizes, stunts, and even the return of everyone’s favorite storyteller, Nob Ogasawara, translator of the first four generations of Pokémon games! 100% of the donations go directly to Rockin’ H Ranch, so tune in and help out a great cause! And because the Pokémon Retrothon is coming up, today’s ice level is Sinjoh Ruins, from Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver!
Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver, remakes of the original Pokémon Gold and Silver games from… hang on let me look this up… 2 million BC. Yeah, they’re pretty old, so these remakes were a welcome upgrade! HG/SS had all the fun additions from the fourth generation, such as online battling and trading, but also added in minigames like the Pokéathlon, berry pots for growing berries on the go, and my favorite, having your Pokémon follow you around in the overworld! Seriously that was the cutest thing in the entire world. New story elements were added as well, but overall the premise followed the original games; catch Pokémon, train them, and beat the Elite Four to become the champion!… oh… and go fight the Kanto gyms from the Red/Blue games too. Man, how cool is that?
Sinjoh Ruins is an event-only area in HG/SS, only unlocked if you have an event Arceus with you to the Ruins of Alph. Once an archaeologist recognizes that you’re on a first-name basis with the Pokémon that created the universe itself, you can go along your merry way. Cynthia, the champion of Sinnoh, is currently hanging out in a cabin nearby, and she’ll tell you that something big is happening at the Mystri Stage inside the ruins. If you deposit all of your other Pokémon and only have Arceus in your party, you may choose whether you want a Dialga, Palkia, or Giratina. Once you choose… THIS HAPPENS. WAIT WHAT. NO. STOP THAT. WHY HAPPEN, NINTENDO??? THIS ISN’T YUME NIKKI CUT THAT OUT YOU MANIACS!! … uhh… anyway, at that point Arceus creates the Pokémon you chose, only it’s level 1 and is holding the orb it’s associated with. Then you’re free to get out of there, which is a good idea considering the nightmare that just transpired, yeesh.
“HMM THAT’S DISCONCERTING!!” “totally.” Full wallpaper’s HERE!
Now time for some music! Pokémon had some icy rooms, but not really a full-on ice area until the fourth generation, but we got some great songs out of them! Route 216 is from Diamond/Pearl, Icirrus City is from Black/White, and Snowbelle City is from X/Y! Vast Ice Mountain is from Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of the Sky, Almia Castle is from Pokémon Ranger: Shadows of Almia, and Nixtorm is from Pokémon Conquest!
And finally, some remixes! This Route 216 mix is by Lockerz102, this Icirrus City mix is by HappyDragonite, and this Snowbelle City mix is by Deidara Drowned! And hey, this has nothing to do with anything, but Fisherman’s Horizon (Christmas ver.) is by Nauts and I think it’s adorable, so I’m posting it anyway. Final Fantasy 8 reminds me of the silly stream Toast did, and that makes me happy, so darn it, imma post stuff that makes me happy!
Anyway, I hope you all enjoyed my stupid fake nerd holiday for dorks. What started off as a very stupid joke has grown into… well, still a stupid joke, but at least a stupid joke that other people can enjoy too. These links and wallpapers aren’t just for fun, you know! They’re also a thank-you to everyone who’s helped TSG over the years, by watching, donating, promoting, whatever! I hope we can help out more causes for years to come, and that you all will be right there with us! Stay tuned for the Pokémon Retrothon, and have a happy holiday!
