Last night we wrapped up our Soulsborne marathon benefiting Direct Relief. Our fall event continues to grow. In fall of 2016 we raised $4,500, 2017 $7,000 and this year $8,300! Thank you to everyone who contributed, from the viewers to the volunteers on site. A special thank you to Kampy and MC from Zeldathon/Direct Relief who assisted in making the event so successful. During Soulsborne we also debuted our new mascot/logo Molasses designed by Space Coyote. Overall a very memorable event with new faces, stunts, and more to look forward too.
Up next we have Nintendo All-Stars benefiting St. Jude Chidren’s Research Hospital December 14-17 2018 on twitch.tv/thespeedgamers. More details will be coming soon. Be sure to keep up with everything TSG by watching “TSG After Dark” every other Monday at midnight on our twitch page. Next episode is on Monday October 22. See you in the chat!
Our 2018 Pokemon marathon is now in the books! We raised over $17,000 for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital this past week. Thank you for all of the support throughout the event and over our ten year history!
The rest of 2018 is jam-packed with TSG events. Very soon we will be at Camp Fangamer (July 21-22), their ten-year anniversary, too. You will be able to watch us live stream a variety of Fangamer games while raising money for charity. More details soon!
Our next marathon is “SoulsBorne” (Dark Souls+Bloodborne franchises) October 12-15 for Direct Relief. Prepare to watch us die — A LOT. We will have a good mix of goofy runs and equally bizarre commentary.
Our last marathon of 2018 will be “Nintendo All-Stars” December 14-17 for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. We will be picking from Nintendo’s huge catalog of games that spans several generations. You will see everything from Battletoads on the NES to Super Smash Bros Ultimate on the Nintendo Switch.
Finally, we have announced our weeklong event for next year, The Legend of Zelda Marathon 2019: Hyrule vs. Lorule II. This event is planned for July 2019. This marathon will be a follow up to our successful 2016 Hyrule vs. Lorule marathon.

Year 10 for TSG started out with a bang. We raised $10,600 for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital during our 96 hour Zelda Marathon. Thank you to all of the attendees, moderators and viewers for making this event so successful. There were so many special moments that we will never forget. Also, an extra special thank you to the Zeldathon attendees Kampy and Doug. It was awesome being able to meet them and have them take part in the event.
Things don’t slow down for us as we prepare for our upcoming Pokemon Marathon June 8-15. We are proud to announce that this event will also be for St. Jude. It has been 4 years since we have attempted to catch all of the Pokemon and in that time the capture number has grown. We are now tasked with catching over 800 Pokemon. It will be a challenge and can’t wait to broadcast our adventure starting June 8th on twitch.tv/thespeedgamers . See yo the chat!
Through all of the technical issues, internet issues, and PayPal outages, over $6,500 was raised for ACT Today! during our Mario Marathon. We had a lot of fun playing through the Mario franchise and celebrating the holidays with the TSG Community.
We are now just a few months away from our ten year anniversary, and we will be celebrating it by doing a 96-Hour Marathon of The Legend of Zelda franchise. Just like how we started in 2008, we will be raising money for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. We look forward to seeing you in the chat March 9-13 at http://twitch.tv/thespeedgamers!
Check out the marathon trailer above, and stay tuned for some surprises as we approach the anniversary!
Resident Evil made for a very memorable marathon. There were a lot of great moments between the viewers, players and commentators. We had a 56% increase in donations over last year’s Halloween marathon, $7,000 (2017) & $4,500 (2016). If you won a prize, you will be contacted via email or twitter in the next week.
Special thank you to all of the sponsors of the event; Capcom, Sades, Carrion Creations, Dawson Perlor Parlor, Stitching Tales, The Item Shop, and Yellercraka. Also thank you to the websites and subreddits that promoted us; r/residentevil, r/horror , Resident Evil Wikia.
Up next is our Mario Marathon, December 15-18 for ACT Today! Autism Care and Treatment. We are very excited to raise money for this great charity again. We will extend the marathon an extra 24 hours to Tuesday December 19th if we reach $8,000 by 6pm on the 18th. We will be playing through a TON of Mario games and of course the newest entry in the series, Mario Odyssey. Our goal for the Marathon will be $10,000. See you in the chat! Twitch.tv/thespeedgamers
We raised $33,580 in 144 hours for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Phenomenal! I think the best way to summarize the event is Jasef’s retrospective which I’ll link at the bottom of this post. We are now gearing up for our Resident Evil Marathon , October 13-16 for Direct Relief International. We will be playing RE 1-7 as well as a few of the spin off games. We’ve started planning out a theme for the event as well as cool partnerships that we will be able to announce shortly. If you want to stay in touch with all of us, be sure to join the discord, discord.gg/thespeedgamers . It’s a great place to hang out with the community between marathons! See you all soon 🙂
To add to the fun of our events, we have created a Final Fantasy-themed campaign that will play out over the course of the marathon. The name of the campaign is “Pixels vs Polygons.”
During the marathon, the attendees will be split into two teams: Team Pixels and Team Polygons. Each person is represented by an avatar that displays their stats: attack and defense. Every time you donate to St. Jude, you can choose a marathon attendee that you would like to power up. For every $5, an attendee will have their stats increased. Twice a day, the two teams will have 4 players from each side pitted against each other in battle. The battle will take the two sides’ stats into consideration when calculating a victor, with the winning team gaining a point for their side. At the end of the campaign and the marathon, one team will win out as the champion.
We think this will be an entertaining and unique way to raise money for a great cause. As always, 100% of the donations go directly to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. We’d like to give an extra special thank you to Space Coyote and Untuxable for creating the Team Pixel and Team Polygon player avatars. For more information on the marathon, please visit the link below, and check out our YouTube at https://www.youtube.com/user/TheSpeedGamers. We look forward to seeing you on July 14th on http://twitch.tv/thespeedgamers!
