Last night we wrapped up our Soulsborne marathon benefiting Direct Relief. Our fall event continues to grow. In fall of 2016 we raised $4,500, 2017 $7,000 and this year $8,300! Thank you to everyone who contributed, from the viewers to the volunteers on site. A special thank you to Kampy and MC from Zeldathon/Direct Relief who assisted in making the event so successful. During Soulsborne we also debuted our new mascot/logo Molasses designed by Space Coyote. Overall a very memorable event with new faces, stunts, and more to look forward too.
Up next we have Nintendo All-Stars benefiting St. Jude Chidren’s Research Hospital December 14-17 2018 on twitch.tv/thespeedgamers. More details will be coming soon. Be sure to keep up with everything TSG by watching “TSG After Dark” every other Monday at midnight on our twitch page. Next episode is on Monday October 22. See you in the chat!
Over the past week, TheSpeedGamers was privileged enough to send three people to the St. Jude PLAY LIVE Summit at the St. Jude Campus in Memphis, Tennessee. Phil, Minikitty, and I got to spend three days learning more about St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and seeing the amazing things that they do for extremely deserving kids and families up-close, and we came back with more of a resolve than ever to do everything that we can for this incredible organization.
St. Jude PLAY LIVE season kicked off on Friday, and it runs through May 31. As most of you know, our upcoming Pokemon Marathon for St. Jude begins on Friday, June 8, so we’ve decided to kick off the campaign early in order to participate with PLAY LIVE!
Head over to https://tiltify.com/+tsg/thespeedgamers to check out the campaign (the exact same one for the marathon), and you’ll be able to see our goal of $50,000, check out some milestones along the way (with more to come), and donate for some incentives! Right now, we are offering up the nicknames for the starter Pokemon evolution lines, the names and genders for the player characters in the games that will be played in the marathon, and the rival names for any game that allows that. Pokemon line nicknames are $50 each, and names for either a player character or a rival are $75 each. All donations, as always, will go DIRECTLY to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, and these donations will also be added to our total for our Pokemon Marathon from June 8-15.
For more information on PLAY LIVE, visit https://stjude.tiltify.com/playlive. Remember, just as during marathons, it’s completely fine if you are unable to donate! One of the best ways to help us raise as much as possible is by spreading the word, so be sure to promote our campaign and upcoming marathon! We’ll be doing some contests on social media between now and the beginning of the marathon, so be sure to follow us on Twitter to see everything that happens!
We can’t thank you guys enough for all of the support over the past ten years, and we can’t wait to see you again on Friday, June 8 at 5pm CT for the start of our Pokemon Marathon for St. Jude! Tune in at http://twitch.tv/thespeedgamers!
UPDATE: Zelda Breath of the Wild Marathon MARCH 3rd (More details upcoming!)
Hello TSG FRIENDS!
I hope you all had a great holiday and year!. TSG saw a bump in donations this year; 2016: $53,254 vs 2015: $45,327 . Now we start 2017 with an event this spring! Keep an eye out for Nintendo’s press event that is being held on January 12th . We will use this conference to announce our next marathon. We have a couple of scenarios that we are looking at. The Nintendo “Switch” is slated to launch in March but we are all in the dark with what games will launch for the console. Our hopes are that Zelda Breath of the Wild will launch with the console and that we will do a Breath of the Wild Marathon as soon as the game launches. We are also considering doing a Switch launch marathon in which we play a variety of launch titles if the first plan falls through. In just a little over a week we will have a clearer picture and let all of you know our plans.
For 2017 we are looking to bump our number of marathons up to 4. One in the Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter. We aren’t quite ready to announce our complete 2017 plans just yet, but stay tuned!
Many screams, scares and goofs were had during our “Trick or Treat” marathon for St. Jude. We raised a bit over $4,500 and had a blast doing it. A big thank you to everyone who participated. Whether you were at the marathon or in the chat, it’s always a complete team effort.
Now we are ramping up for our Pokemon Sun and Moon Marathon which begins on December 16th. We aim to catch the entire generation of new Pokemon while lying out challenges for ourselves along the way. During the marathon viewers will be able to unlock additional games and even extend the marathon past the 19th. We will announce the charity, achievements and other details in November.
Keep checking back to our blog for more details!
JaggerG has put together a mini Metroid event that starts today! We set a donation incentive to host this event during our Pokethon in December and you guys crushed it. Many community members will be playing through several different Metroid games throughout the week. MetalMan kicks off the event at 1pm central with Prime Hunters.
The Retro Pokethon for Rocking H Ranch is just a week away (Thurs Dec 17th) so we are making trainers and starters available to name NOW. Trainers and starters will go for $30 each. Donate to Rocking H Ranch with the following link DONATE HERE and leave the trainer or Pokemon starter that you would like to name and also the nickname that you would like to give it in the comment of your donation. The names are on a first come first serve basis. We will keep this list of available Pokemon and starters up to date and also tweet from @thespeedgamers when starters or trainers are claimed. Our next marathon will begin on Thursday December 17th @ 6pm central. We will be attempting to catch the first two generations of Pokemon on their original cartridges in under 72 hours while raising money for the Rocking H Ranch supported charities.
These charities include “Backpack for Kids” which provide backpacks of food to kids that would not have food over the weekend during the school year; “Tara Sawyer Foundation” helps support organizations for abused neglected or abandoned children and drill wells for safe drinking water in impoverished regions; “Trent’s Retreat Nonprofit Foundation” Our mission is to provide, at no charge, a retreat for families who have a child with pediatric cancer. The purpose of the retreat is to provide a safe, relaxing atmosphere, in a country setting, that is peaceful for parents coping with a child’s life threatening illness; yet fun and entertaining for the children. Our goal is that Trent’s Retreat will be an oasis for these families that will allow them to relax and enjoy family time amid the stress of battling pediatric cancer. “Paws for Reflection” provides a healing, educational, motivational, and recreational environment utilizing equine and other animal assisted therapies and experiences to enhance the quality of life for all clients, and to provide a loving home, whether temporary or permanent, for animals that meet a specific criteria.
TSG has been gaming at the Rocking H Ranch since late 2010. We are very thankful for the support they have shown us over the years. We can’t wait to be able to give back.
The stream will be live around the clock with all Pokemon catches on camera. We will have many unlockable events and marathon additions as we raise money for the Rocking H Ranch.
More details will be added to this post as we get closer to the marathon.
