A date has yet to be locked down, but the developers are shooting for it to hit sometime later this year.
Sony put it out on face book that they will be officially announcing and unveilling the product on the 14th of February. It seems crazy that you would have a countdown to a product to totally leaked as this one, but let them do what they want.
We have known about the Playstation branded phone for a good long time now, but we didn’t know about it’s services until Sony showed those off at Playstation Meeting 2011. The phone will most likely work in conjunction with the Sony Suite, a branding and quality assurance for Sony Phone games on the Android platform. At this time we know that the Sony Suite will support some PS1 game that would be very playable considering that the Experia Play has 2 touchpad that work as sticks, a d-pad, and the the usual face buttons for a sony controller.
Great news for our friends in Europe!
Sony has finally finished the first version of their app for the iPhone and Android mobile hand-helds. The functions of the Playstation App are as follows:
- Check out your PlayStation Network trophies and keep up to date with your friends’ games and online status.
- Discover all the latest games, news and hardware for your PlayStation 3, PSP and PlayStation 2.
- Read all the announcements on the European PlayStation.Blog.
- Share your favourite products or news with your friends on Facebook, Twitter or via e-mail.
US users will have to wait a while, sadly. Currently, the app is only available for UK, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, and The Netherlands. You can snag the app here.
Although the necessity of this product is questionable, it’s a slow news day. DON’T JUDGE ME.

Engadget claims that they have received a tip from a trusted source that Sony is in the late stages of developing a PlayStation Phone built off the Android 3.0 platform.
The source described the device as a cross between the PSP Go and the Samsung Captivate. The slide out keyboard is replaced with the PlayStation Portable’s D-pad and face buttons. The analog nub has been removed in favor of a “long touch pad” that will be used for analog controls.
Engadget also reports that the device will have a screen that is between 3.7 and 4.1 inches with WGVA resolution or better. A 5 megapixel camera may be included, but the source said this detail is not final yet. The platform will use a 1GHZ Snapdragon CPU, and the visuals fall in line with other PlayStation Portable games.
The source describes the system as mostly black with silver highlites, while the control pad itself is white and silver.
As for games, Sony seems to be showing off the platform with old PSX games and a handful of new PSP games. The source says franchises like God of War, Modern Warfare, and Little Big Planet may also appear on the platform.
I’m not too entirely sure what to think of this. But it does make me wonder if this will actually be considered a new platform, or if it will just simply be a PSP Go and a phone shoved together.
If this is related to the PSP2 rumors we saw before E3, than it sounds like it will be a completely different platform. We will have to wait and see if Sony announces anything at Gamescom next week or at Tokyo Game Show.
