Professor Layton vs. Phoenix Wright Trailer, Likely NA Release

During the Tokyo Game Show, publisher Capcom was present en masse, promoting their products heavily. Among the promotional materials were flyers in English promoting Professor Layton vs. Phoenix Wright, the first time Capcom has recognized the English title. In addition to that was the statement that English character names were TBD, stopping just short of officially announcing the game for a North American release.

Among the teasing text was the official trailer for the game, and I swear that if they pull a Mega Man Legends 3 on this game there will be heads rolling…

Anyway, the trailer is after the jump.

Capcom Crushes Any Hope For Mega Man Legends 3

Recently Capcom decided to hurt a portion of it’s fans by cancelling Mega Man Legends 3 for the Nintendo 3DS. Within the past month, loyal fans have been pushing and pushing to get the word out that they care about the game, such as, creation of the 100,000 Strong for Bringing Back Mega Man Legends 3 group on the social networking site FaceBook.

The gaming site Kotaku has had an interview with Brian Keltner, Capcom’s Spokesman.

“We are aware of the fan created Facebook page requesting that we resume development of Mega Man Legends 3,”

“While Capcom has a built a strong relationship with its community and values their feedback, Mega Man Legends 3 development has officially ceased without plans to resume development.”

That’s really harsh words just to out and say to it’s fans.

“There are tough realities in this industry that are largely left unpublicized for a good reason—because they’re tough,” Capcom community liaison Greg Moore wrote. “All games go through a multi-stage approval process, but most games are not brought to the public’s attention until that final approval has been met. With Mega Man Legends 3, exposing the fans to that process was part of the project’s core concept—to show everybody what it really means to create a game. We were all in it together here, for better or worse, and now together we must accept the outcome that many games ultimately face.”

CyberConnect2 Would Love to Finish Mega Man Legends 3

CyberConnect2 expressed some interest in working on Mega Man Legends 3 and with the recent cancellation perhaps they could foot the development. If what Capcom is really worried about is the risk of the game not selling than this could be the answer to their problem.

They already have a relationship as the publisher of CyberConnect2’s upcoming Asura’s Wrath and CyberConnect2’s work on Solatorobo and Tail Concerto shows that they can make a cool, light-hearted action RPG. I really couldn’t think of anyone better to work on the game, but really it’s all up to Capcom.

Mega Man Legends 3 Officially Cancelled

In Capcom’s most recent attempt to alienate their fan base (See: Devil May Cry Reboot, Not localising Ace Attorney Investigations 2 or Phoenix Wright vs Professor Layton and not allowing Yoshinori Ono to make Dsrkstalkers 4), They have decided to cancel both the prototype version of Mega Man Legends 3 but also the full game. Mega Man Legends 3 was supposed to be a project that was aimed solely at the Mega Man fanbase, as not just would they be able to play the prototype version so Capcom could receive some gamer input into the project, but they also allowed their fans to vote on the design for the main heroine in the game. This news came days after the San Diego Comic Con where Capcom’s reasoning was that it didn’t meet unspecified criteria at their company and production had to be discontinued, which could also be linked to the reasons why Mega Man Legends 1&2 and The Misadventures of Tron Bonne were never put on the PlayStation Network to promote the game. They also explained that this had nothing to do with Keiji Inafune’s absence from the company (This might be true considering that Mega Man Universe was cancelled while he was still working there ). In a message from one of the employees at Capcom, he stated: “We can only express our deepest apologies to all of you who have lent us your unending support, including participation in the Mega Man Legends 3 Developer Room. On behalf of the entire Legends team, please accept our sincere apology for failing to meet the expectations of the fans.”

Ixion Saga Announced By Capcom

Rumours were circulating, as they do, when Capcom registered for the trademark for Ixiom Saga. Today, some, if only one or two, details were revealed in Japanese magazine Famitsu.

The PC-Exclusive Game is set to be purely online based, with eight versus eight players. The only other details known at the moment is that players will be able to customise their character from one of three classes – Striker (Swords), Caster (Magic) and Blaster (Big Guns) and will not only do battle with other players, but also with giant monsters.

While the release date is not until next summer, the Alpha Test is due to begin by the end of July, so stay tuned for more details about this game. This will be Capcom’s second online game with Monster Frontier Hunter Online their other online IP, with no indication if it will be dropped when Ixion Saga is released.

E3: DmC Devil May Cry, Sly Cooper and Nintendo Use Non-WiiU Footage

As E3 wakes up, here’s your second round of news information!

DmC Devil May Cry: 360, PS3 – No Confirmed Release Date

Capcom have released a gameplay trailer for the contreversy-coated origin story of Dante. Fans of the series have been up in arms over the game, upset over the changes to Dante’s look. While the gameplay does look similar to prior itirations, it probably is unfair to judge it purely on a younger version of the arguably iconic Dante. Judge for yourselves if the game could be good, or if the look threatens to ruin what could be a fantastic game.

Sly Cooper: Theives in Time: Ps3 Exclusive – Due Out 2012

Sony have confirmed the rumours that Sucker Punch Productions are not in charge of Sly Cooper 4 due to their commitments to the inFamous series. Instead, Sanzaru Games have been gifted with overseeing Sly’s first outing since 2005. While fans are understandably anxious, it should be noted Sanzaru were behind the HD ports of the original trilogy onto the PS3, so have experience with how to treat the series with respect. The trailer shows promise, you can check it out below.

WiiU – Due 2012

Nintendo’s press conference blew everyone away, and for those lucky enough to be watching it were amazed at the WiiU and what the graphics were capable of. However, hindsight is 20:20, especially with the reveal that President of Nintendo America Reggie Fils-Aime admitted that the video wasn’t showing Wii U footage — it was showing footage from PS3 and 360 versions of the games in question. While Nintendo haven’t done anything wrong – the hardware is nowhere near ready yet, and E3 participants have been toying with tech demos at the booth. However, they used the footage to give people an idea of what to expect.

While this is disheartening, it is not the end of the world, and Nintendo cannot be scalded until we see the WiiU ((Or Wii Universe as I will now call it, WiiU is too silly)) in it’s finished form. I don’t have  a video for this, so here’s the Super Mario 3DS trailer again.

This trailer introduces all the characters that you’ll be able to mow down enemy swarms with, including Chris Redfield, Jill Valentine, Rebecca Chambers, Barry Burton, and more!

Mercenaries 3D will not have a story mode and is entirely based on different gameplay modes and scoring points. Those wanting to get their hands on a more story driven Resident Evil may still want to check out Mercenaries 3D. The title ships with a free demo of Resident Evil: Revelations, Capcom’s full blown Resident Evil 3DS title scheduled for 2012.

Rumor: Japanese Director Working on Ace Attorney Movie?

The Ace Attorney series has seen a couple of adaptations outside of  a game form. Both a Japanese play and a manga have been created based off the series. Now the title may be seeing a movie conversion.

Takashi Miike, director of Ichi the Killer, made mention of his next project in an interview Huffingtonpost at the Cannes film festival. Takashi said, “it is a very light comedy that I am filming now, a court drama, based on a video game, the Nintendo game DS.” It’s hard to imagine it being anything else other than Ace Attorney, unless it is some other random court room DS game. But I’d say Ace Attorney would be the safest bet.

Who knows how far along the project is or if it will ever see light of day. Until then we’ll just have to harass Capcom about localizing the sequel to Ace Attorney Investigations.
