Falcom’s works are largely unknown to the masses, despite influencing both Square and Enix into creating role-playing games, creating the first game with a fully developed soundtrack, almost single-handedly inventing the Action RPG genre (and JRPG’s to a lesser extent) and being one of the oldest role-playing game developers in history. While their flagship Ys series is by far their most famous series being only second behind Square Enix in terms of game releases, it never really gathered the same popularity that other similar JRPG series enjoyed, such as Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest and even Shin Megami Tensei.
With Falcom TitS busting out of stores everywhere as of yesterday, Falcom are continuing their success with their unique ARPG’s by announcing the latest entry in the Ys series, Ys Nexus. Ys Nexus will be a MMORPG for the GREE mobile gaming social platform and it will place you in the Ys World where you can meet various characters from the series as well as join the adventures of Adol the Red and his fantabulous adventures (There will almost be various references to TitS and the other Sora no Kiseki games). Falcom also teased on their Twitter about the latest version of Rodoku Shojo (An Iphone App where various animé characters can read books to you) and that Estel from Trails of the Sky would be making an appearence soon. Trails of the Sky came out in America Yesterday and I highly advice to all of you that you get it.
For all you TitS fans out there (such as CaramelSlice), Falcom revealed the first trailer for the sequel to the PSP Remake of the second game in the Sora no Kiseki trilogy. At the end of the trailer, it’s revealed that the limited edition will contain the game as well as a Drama CD and two official Nendroids represnting Tio and Elle. The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky will be hitting US shores March 29th and Trails of Blue will be released in Japan on September 29th.
While Falcom Fanatics are still eagerly anticipating Ys I & II Chronicles for the PSP, They might also be interested in the PSP version of Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky coming out in the near future. To any Chinese games out there, Falcom are working on a PC port of the game that is exclusive to China. The game will feature full HD graphics and it will support control using a mouse, keyboard or a gamepad. Chinese PC ports of JRPG’s aren’t as uncommon as you might believe, the most common examples being that of Suikoden I&II which were never released anywhere else in the world. The Limited Edition of the PSP version will recieve a US release sometime next month.
More Langrisser? Ys Please! (I’m so creative). For anyone interested in the PC-98 cult hits, Langrisser: Decendants of Light will be avaliable from the Japanese Play Station Network from Febuary 16th onwards for 600 Yen ($7). Also avaliable that day will be: The obscure horizontal Shmup Aldynes, MegaMan esque platformer Shockma and most noable of all; Ys III will all be avaliable for the same price (Ys III Will be at the premium price of 800 yen ($9.50)). Ys fans will most likely be aware that Ys III was recently remade as Ys: The Oath from Felghana gaining critical acclaim from fans of the series and gaming journalists as well. For anyone interested in these games being released in English, Hudson has been slowly releasing its backlog of Turbografx-16 games onto US PSN however with Hudson’s US branch closing its doors, the future of the games to western gamers is unknown.
More TitS? Ys Please! For any European gamers out there, it should be noted that Ys: Oath of Felghana was released on PSN recently to anyone interested. As well as this, XSEED confirmed on Facebook that Ys 1 & II would be released on Febuary 22nd for the US AND the UK. To my knowledge, the only time the UK has recieved a Ys game that the US has not is Ys Strategy: A SRPG spinoff to the series (As some members here would know about isn’t that right Caramel?). For gamers interested in Falcom’s other titles, the Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky will recieve a premium version filled with lts of extra content. The content includes: A Soundtrack CD, A Bracer Guild Badge and dissapointing poster instead of a figurine or a Bust (DOHOHO). Either way, the game will be released in the US sometime this March, much to the excitement of TitS fans.
To all you TitS lovers out there, You now have something extra to look forward to next year! Nihon Falcom, creators of YS SEVEN!!! announced today that there next game in their Legend of the Heroes: Sora/Zero no Kiseki series will be released next year. To commemorate their 30th anniversary, Falcom refered to the game as having an “overwhelming world view and the highest volume in [series] history”. The game is refered to as “New Kiseki series title” and more details should be out very soon.
To anyone who is interested in TiTs, you will be happy to know that XSEED plans to release the first part of the trilogy of TiTs on March 29th. XSEED havepreviously localised Falcom’s other major game series: The Ys saga in which the Chronicles edition of the first two games will be out next Febuary. XSEED Jumped at the chance to playtest TiTs and they deemed the TiTs in questions worthy for an overseas release. TiTs fans will also be happy to hear that more TiTs are on the way as XSEED have picked up TiTs: Second Chapter and TiTs: The Third (I think they’re kind of milking it though). Other Falcom games such as The Legend of the Heroes: Zero no Kiseki and Ys vs Sora no Kiseki may be released overseas in the future though I doubt these games are as well rounded as TiTs are.
Falcom, the Japanese RPG developer who are famous for making the Ys series as well as the Legend of Heroes games and told their fans through Twitter to keep an eye on their website on November 4th. The last game released by Falcom was Zero no Kisegi which was the latest game in their Legend of Heroes saga. This, Sora no Kiseki vs Ys and Ys: The Oath Felghana are the only games Falcom have released in Japan last year as well has having released Ys SEVEN earlier this year in America.
Enjoy Ys Seven? Good! Great! Fun! In early November you will want to take a break from enjoying Ys Seven to enjoy yourself another Ys title on the PSP, The Oath in Felghana.
The title is a remake of the third game in the series, which has seen a few localizations already. The title will be launching with a collector’s edition, complete with a soundtrack and a desktop calender. The collector’s edition is set for a $39.99 price point, while the standard edition is set for $29.99.
You can take a glance at the collector’s edition after the jump.
