After leaving Capcom due to undisclosed issues (mostly to do with the stagnation of the Japanese gaming industry), Keiji Inafune remained mostly under the radar as his new companies Concept and Intercept seemed to be content with releasing social games and Inafune himself always being happy to lend himself to cameos in Hyperdimensional Neptunia Mk 2. This guise was abolished today with the announcement of Concept’s latest project: King of Pirates.
Inafune describes King of Pirates as an intended trilogy with over 300 characters that will be based of the classic Chinese novel Romance of the Three Kingdoms. While the game isn’t exactly the first game to be based of Romance of the Three Kingdoms, It is most likely the first one to involve pirates. The game is set for a release in Japan for the 3DS next year and a trailer can be found after the jump.

Keiji Inafune, creator of Mega Man and Dead Rising, has been a bit quiet since he left Capcom after his twenty-three years service. Now he has finally made his move forming two new companies, Comcept and Intercept.
Intercept, the company we’re more interested in, will focus completely on game development. The website for the site is already up here. The site lists three goals for the company’s software.
Originality – Cannot be copied by others.
Gravity – Has the power to pull people in
Beyond Age – Things that cross eras
The other company, Comcept, will focus on other forms of entertainment, rather than just video games. The site specifically mentions mobile games, online games, books, music, and video.
Of course it will be awhile till we see something from Inafune, at least in the games department. But it’s good to see that things are starting to get rolling for him.
