Games I’m Going To Stab – Silent Hill: Homecoming

Hello, and welcome to a new feature I’m making up right now, called Games I’m Going To Stab. I doubt this will be a regular thing, but rather articles that I’ll write any time I play a godawful game. Because if you can’t use the internet to post your impotent nerd rage over a silly geek hobby, then what can  you use it for? Research? Psh, come on now. And today, let us partake of that aforementioned impotent nerd rage against Silent Hill: Homecoming. Or as I like to call it, Alex Shepherd’s Adventures In A Poorly-Written Fanfiction: The Parody That Isn’t.

Metal Gear Solid 3D and Zone of the Enders HD in early 2012

Hideo Kojima unloaded a nice bit of information at his Tokyo Game Show presentation. Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D is planned to release in early 2012. A holiday release would have been fantastic, but this works as well. No official release date as of now.

Another series created by Hideo Kojima is Zone of the Enders. For those who have no idea what Zone of the Enders is, it’s a futuristic Action game focused around mecha combat. In short, fighting robots in space. Sounds pretty awesome right? The first two games Zone of the Enders and Zone of the Enders: The 2nd Runner are Playstation 2 releases, and it even has it’s own anime that’s 26 episodes long. The games are pretty rare and hard to find as of now. The HD releases are expected to hit shelves early to mid 2012, with the anime box set coming sometime in the summer.

E3 Spotlight: Sonic Generations, Zombie Apocolypse 2, R&C: All 4 One

You didn’t think we wouldn’t be covering all the smaller updates, did you? Here’s the first of today’s updates and news about games we already knew about, but with some new information.

SONIC GENERATIONS: PS3, 360, 3DS – Release date: November 22nd 2011

A recent interview undertaken by Machinima at E3 with Patrick Reily, Director of International Development for Sega, revealed a bit more information about the celebration of Sonic’s 20th birthday. The game is essentially that, bringing back Genesis/Megadrive levels, Dreamcast levels, and current gen levels in an HD, all shiny new style with a storyline threading it all togerher.

With two distinct gameplay style with Retro Sonic having only his moves from the original Quadrilogy ((No Homing attack!)) as well as Modern Sonic having gameplay styles from Colours and Unleashed ((He didn’t mention 06, as well he shouldn’t)) – Both have their own storyline and make cameos in each others, and are the only playable characters, according to a statement from Takashi Iizuka. Prior reports of a PC version have been quashed, however the 3DS version has been confirmed.

Zombie Apocolypse 2: XBLA and PSN – Fall/Autumn 2011

Nothing more than an announcement, but Konami announced on their website that a sequel to a surprise hit of 2009, Zombie Apocolypse, is getting a sequel to be released in the Fall/Autumn.

However, they are hinting at a new gameplay style, as in the original, your character was trapped in a small map, and you had to survive for a certain amount of time, now four new survivours must work together to fight through a reclusive island and not die. With each character getting unique abilities and weapons, this will add a certain level of tactical depth that was lacking in the original. While no gameplay footage was available, here”s some from the original to give you a taste of what you can expect.

Ratchet & Clank: All 4 One: Ps3 Exclusive – Released 18th October 2011 ((US)), 20th October ((Australia)), 21st October ((Europe))

Insomniac gave a glimpse of the first level of the latest four-person co-op game in Ratchet & Clank: All 4 One, with features Ratchet & Clank, failed Ego hero Captain Quark, and Doctor Nefarious who must work together to escape a trap that Nefarious’s latest scheme forced them to fall for. With the exception of one or two games, the Ratchet and Clank series has always been of a ratehr high standard, and the gameplay looks promising – not as cluster-frenzied as NSMBWii was, mainly thanks to the third dimension to move around on.

New Set of Silent Hill Downpour Screens

Konami has been pretty quiet about Silent Hill: Downpour. But as a reminder that the game is still coming, they have released a handful of screens for the title. Not much is going on here outside of the enviroment itself, but I guess an important aspect of the Silent Hill franchise.

You also get a glimpse at one of the other characters outside of the main character. Otherwise, not really much going on here. The title is scheduled for a 2011 release on Xbox 360 and PlayStaiton 3. I’m sure we will see more at E3.

Doctor Lautrec Heading to North America this Summer

It’s hard not to get a Professor Layton vibe from Konami’s upcoming 3DS title, Doctor Lautrec and the Forgotten Knights. Even the title sounds like a Professor Layton title! Despite its british voice acting, familiar art, and top hats, Doctor Lautrec is proving to be an interesting title with a few elements not found in Professor Layton.

While it does feature conversation and puzzle elements, Doctor Lautrec seems to play alot more like an RPG. Players run around environments and battling foes. Definitely not what you’d see in a Layton game.

The title is set for Summer 2011 exclusively for Nintendo 3DS. After the jump you can find the new trailer and some screenshots.

Rumor: Metal Gear Solid HD Trilogy in the Works

Not enough HD Metal Gear out there on the market for you? Metal Gear Solid: Rising is still quite the ways out there. Oh, what shall you do? Well, some classic Metal Gear may be coming to the rescue.

According to Official PlayStation Magazine, they’ve heard some inside rumblings that an HD trilogy is on the way for Metal Gear Solid. Unfortunately the rumor didn’t specify which titles.

Some might assume the first three Metal Gear Solid games would be on the collection, but so far only PlayStation 2 titles have gotten HD face-lifts. The original Metal Gear Solid only landed on the original PlayStation and the Gamecube. We might see something like with the Tomb Raider HD bundle where the recent PlayStation 3 title will be included along side two HD remakes.

For now, it’s just a rumor.
