SKETCHIN’!! – … Whatever.

I love Valve. I love Half-Life and Team Fortress and Portal and Left 4 Dead. And part of why I love them stems from how much I love their characters. Valve is known for making awesome, distinctive, interesting characters that are arguably alive. Whereas many other studios’ characters merely inhibit ice, nothing more.

… Wait, what was I talking about?

More after the break

New Left 4 Dead 2 campagin “The Passing” features L4D 1 characters

Valve has announced the first DLC for Left 4 Dead 2. The DLC will include a new campaign called “The Passing” which takes place after the events of “Dead Center.” The mission is set in a small town in rural Georgia where players, who still control the Left 4 Dead 2 cast, will be able to meet up with the cast of survivors from the original Left 4 Dead.

As for actual gameplay content the game will include a new co-operative challenge mode. In the new campaign players will encounter a new “uncommon common” infected type and will be getting new weapons including one new fire arm and one new melee weapon as well.

The DLC is planned for an early spring release on both the X-box 360 and PC, but as of right now there has yet to be an announcement for the pricing of the content.

Left 4 Dead 2 Cinematic Trailer

You won’t find any gameplay here, but you can get a bit of a look at the personalities of each character. It is pretty entertaining though, even if you aren’t looking forward to Left 4 Dead 2 is definitely worth a watch.

Left 4 Dead 2 is currently set to come out on the 17th of November.

Australian Rating Board still not giving Left 4 Dead 2 MA15 rating (Update)

While censoring Left 4 Dead 2 for Aussie release seemed like the way to go, the Australian Rating Board still won’t lower the games rating to a MA15. One of their major reasons for holding the back the title was because there was “…insufficient delineation between the depiction of general zombie figures and the human figures, as opposed to the clearly fictional ‘infected’ characters.

It stinks that Valve spent time and money to censor the game and still get denied a MA15 rating. Its even worse for any Left 4 Dead fans in Australia who won’t be able to have the title readily available to them. At the very least the original Left 4 Dead is still available in Australia.

Update: This article was related to the uncensored version, the  censored version is still seeing a release in AUS.

Valve announces new Left 4 Dead 2 competitive mode "Scavenge"

Left 4 Dead 2‘s “Scavenge” is a new competitive mode that has the survivors trying to collect 16 gas filled cans to fill a generator while the infected attempt to stop them in any way possible. Infected can knock the cans out of the survivors hands and can also use the new specialized infected “The Spitter” to catch the cans on fire. The survivors’ aim will also be important because bullets can also catch the gas containers on fire as well.

The new mode will be split into six rounds that will be 120 seconds long with the addition of a 20 second bonus for each gas can collected. If a gas can is being carried when the time hits zero the round will go into over time until a infected knocks it from their hands or until the player safely deposits it in the generator. The mode will have six maps at launch that consist of reconfigured maps from the campaign mode.

Left 4 Dead 2 is set to be released on November 17th on the X-box 360 and the PC.

Good news Australia!

About a month ago the Australian Classification Board ruled that Left for Dead 2 “contains violence that is high in impact and is therefore unsuitable for persons aged under 18 to play.”  Pop open the Vegemite Champagne and put another shrimp on the BarBie Rust,  according to Kotaku Valve’s Gabe Newell said that Valve  has submitted an edited Austrian-only version of Left 4 Dead 2.

Now we must wait and see what the Australian Classification Board decides.  I’ll keep everyone posted when a verdict is reached.
