To add to the fun of our events, we have created a Final Fantasy-themed campaign that will play out over the course of the marathon. The name of the campaign is “Pixels vs Polygons.”
During the marathon, the attendees will be split into two teams: Team Pixels and Team Polygons. Each person is represented by an avatar that displays their stats: attack and defense. Every time you donate to St. Jude, you can choose a marathon attendee that you would like to power up. For every $5, an attendee will have their stats increased. Twice a day, the two teams will have 4 players from each side pitted against each other in battle. The battle will take the two sides’ stats into consideration when calculating a victor, with the winning team gaining a point for their side. At the end of the campaign and the marathon, one team will win out as the champion.
We think this will be an entertaining and unique way to raise money for a great cause. As always, 100% of the donations go directly to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. We’d like to give an extra special thank you to Space Coyote and Untuxable for creating the Team Pixel and Team Polygon player avatars. For more information on the marathon, please visit the link below, and check out our YouTube at https://www.youtube.com/user/TheSpeedGamers. We look forward to seeing you on July 14th on http://twitch.tv/thespeedgamers!
Starting on Friday December 13th at 6pm CST we will be playing the Zelda franchise for 72 hours continuously while raising money for Mercy Corps (http://www.mercycorps.org/). We have a goal of $15,000 and if we reach that goal by Monday December 16th we will extend the marathon by another 24 hours. The Mercy Corps is currently helping those affected by the typhoon in the Philippines by providing emergency relief. You can watch all of the game play and commentary right here on TheSpeedGamers.com
As well as our donation goal we also have a difficult game play goal. We want to complete every Zelda game in under 72 hours. This is going to be hard but we have been practicing hard to make this happen. Soon we will post a game schedule so you can see when your favorite games will be played.
So far we have had many great prizes donated to us and Mayday22 has informed me of many more that are soon to arrive. We will update our new prize page as the prizes come in so keep checking back to TheSpeedGamers.com/prizes
The first 15 people to donate at least $50 get to name Link in one of our playthroughs! You can send in your donations starting now and we will announce via twitter, our website and forums once all 15 slots are filled. The max amount of letters that we want you to use is 6, and if you want a better shot at getting your name in the original NES title, use only 4 characters.
Simply put the name you want in the “comments” part of your donation. If for some reason you are not able to leave a comment, you can email us at email@example.com and let us know what name you would like to use. The game your name will be assigned to will be randomly drawn. However, if you would prefer a specific game, leave a note in your comment or email and if no one else has claimed the game, we will automatically use that name.
As you can see on the front page of TheSpeedGamers.com, local and diana have spiced things up a bit with our donation widget. The donation widget is located on the right hand side about a third down our web page.

I’ve loved Capcom ever since I was a kid. In fact, Mega Man 2 is one of the first games I ever played! Their games have inspired my art for most of my life, so it’s a real thrill to see them help out with TSG’s marathon. You’re helping out a great group and a great cause, Capcom! Thanks a billion!
