In case you are still holding out for a PSP release of Valkyria Chronicles III, SEGA put to rest those hopes confirming that the lack of popularity of the platform will keep the title in Japan.
Hiroshi Seno, team manager of console sales at Sega cites high localization costs and low sales of Valkyria Chronicles II as the reason for the title not seeing a localization.
The lack of western interest in the PSP is a problem plaguing a lot of titles right now, like Capcom’s Monster Hunter Portable 3rd that hasn’t shown any sign of localization.
It may not be time to give up entirely, though. While nothing is confirmed, Seno said Sega will speak to Sony about a release on PlayStation Vita next time they meet.
If you have a deep wallet and are looking to help Japan, you might want to head over to SEGA of America’s Ebay page. You’ll find awesome swag like tons of Sonic gear, signed games, Yakuza 4 T-shirts, a Dreamcast hoodie and backpack, Valkyria Chronicles poster board art and many more items.
A lot of this stuff isn’t just your average everyday gear though. Being on a bid system, the prices are starting to rise. The most expensive is the previously mentioned Valkyria Chronicles poster board art, with the highest bid currently at $560 with five days still left in the running. Although there are still some lower priced items ranging from $30 and below. So you’re not entirely out of luck if your wallet doesn’t have a launch PS3 in it.
100% of the proceeds will be going towards the American Red Cross to support its aid in Japan. So even if you do pay way too much money for something, at least you can safely say it was for a good cause.
Oh, what could it be? Probably Valkyria Chronicles 3, especially since Valkyria2.jp links to Valkyria Chronicles 2’s website. While this is no confirmation, it definitely shows that SEGA is, at the very least, interested in doing a third title.
The real question here is, what platform it will appear on. The franchise switched from the PlayStation 3 to the PlayStation Portable with its second entry, although that move didn’t seem to be well accepted by a lot of fans. Despite this, it seems the title still performed fairly well in Japan.
We will have to see how well Valkyria Chronicles 2 performs in the Western regions when the title launches on August 31st in North America and September 3rd in Europe.
Valkyria Chronicles on the PlayStation 3! It has Vyse from Skies of Arcadia in it, and that is all you need to know. Buy it! Now. Still not convinced? Blasphemy! Well, a review may be in-order for you to make a purchasing judgment on Valkyria Chronicles.
Valkyria Chronicles is a 2008 strategy role playing title from the developers behind Skies of Arcadia for the SEGA Dreamcast, hence Vyse’s inclusion. The team hadn’t really developed anything too notable since Skies of Arcadia, but Valkyria Chronicles on the PlayStation 3 changed that with an interesting and unique look at the strategy role playing genre. And, of course, by bringing back Vyse.

That trailer is quite possibly the shortest trailer you will ever see.
If you haven’t heard yet, Valkyria Chronicles 2 is coming to the PlayStation Portable. Not much gameplay footage has been shown, but you can check out what little has been released over at their Japanese website.
